Could someone please explain this award for the newer arrivals? :D

The 28th Annual Stundie Award (it's always the 28th Annual award, for reasons explained elsewhere) was set up to recognise the outstandingly fractured logic peculiar to conspiracy theorists. The monthly award goes to the statement made online by a conspiracy theorists in that month that is considered by the voters to display the most entertaining combination of logical inconsistency, absurdity, committment to error, and ideally arrogant disdain of those capable of formulating a chain of logic. The awards are named for a former, now banned, JREF member who was noted for these qualities in abundance. Quotes are presented with minimal context, as a good Stundie should fail the guffaw test when read in isolation (there's the little matter of compliance with the spirit of the forum rules as well; words have been spoken at times).

Please feel free to add your own contributions to the nominations thread, ideally as a nominator rather than a nominee. And welcome to the forum.

Dave

[swiki]9/11 Glossary[/swiki] :

Stundie

Monthly award for the silliest thing said by a conspiracy theorist, as voted for by members of the JREF forums; also, any statement silly enough to deserve nomination. Named after a flagrantly silly Truther with the Internet username of Stundie.

The word Stundie can also be used as a verb, meaning to nominate a statement for a Stundie.

I am going with 16 because it is incredibly stupid and because I nominated it.

There's a lot of crazy there, it's very hard to pick one (or two or three). All of them would be worthy winners

* 16 because the concept of anthropomorphic buildings is a special kind of crazy.

* 1 because not everyone can grasp that Heroes is just a tellybox programme and not reality.

*11. If I search for "Ewan McGregor to marry the poster known as Agatha" in google, and no results are found, it must be going to happen. Result!

Honourable mention - 6. I knew there was magic inside my electric kettle.

I'd point out that while the majority 99.9999999% are indeed from CTs, there is nothing in the rules that states that only CTs are to be represented, and in fact anyone, even a debunker, who makes a side splittingly silly comment in reference to a Conspiracy Theory is eligible for the award.

Honestly, given the choice, I'd bounce too. Isn't there a Hitchhiker's Guide anecdote about carrying your towel and rolling when you hit the ground after a long fall?

I had to go with #9. If I ever met the kind of person who goes by the logic of "Well, Hollywood made it seem realistic, therefore it actually must have happened", I think I'd be speechless.

I also like the guy who wants to witness every autopsy....ever....in order to believe the autopsy report. Wow.
I think more context should have been included for that one ... it's funnier if you realize that this is his basis for suspecting Obama of murdering his granny.

That's the spirit. Speak not of it so that it might be true.:D

True. I kinda wish a debunker would get a truly Stundie worthy quote nominated so that it would shut up the Stundie detractors.

Ahh yes, the "The Matrix and V is for Vendetta were documentaries" crowd.

10. Because it is my first nomination thats has made the finals.

I loved that one, and I voted for it myself.

True, with more context it is funnier but I thought it was funny enough on its own.

Wow.

Number 9, "just like there's a second space program besides NASA."

That's just crazy. To think that the EU, or Japan, or China, or Russia have a space program?

Or the US Air Force for that matter....or private companies....

Any quote that contains the immortal words "I know its just a movie but..." deserves a vote. Plus 1 got one for sheer daftness and 2 for the fact that it displays quite plainly the tenuous connection with reality some CTists have.
