Jeanne Gibson, the last 'Rosie the Riveter' has passed away at the age of 100.

Jeanne was 19 when she became a welder welder at Todd Shipyard, Seattle.

Alongside her fellow surviving Rosies, Jeanne was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal in 2024.

A notable passing, indeed.

The image on her shirt is not, of course, "Rosie the Riveter", but "We Can Do It", from a completely separate campaign, but a connection was made some time ago and is perpetuated on the internet.

Probably not familiar to anyone outside the Uk or born in the last 35 years.

Jimmy Cricket, the northern Irish comic who became a regular fixture on British television throughout the 1980s, has died aged 80.

Known for his catchphrase: “And there’s more!”, Cricket fronted his own ITV series of the same name on which he rocked his signature look of tailcoat, short trousers and wellington boots marked clearly with “L” and “R” on the wrong feet. He also appeared at the 1984 Royal Variety Performance as well as in the BBC’s long-running light entertainment vehicle The Good Old Days.

Major League Baseball pitcher Tommy John has died, at age 83. Best known for the surgery that was performed on his pitching arm in 1974, which became known as Tommy John Surgery. This is now such a common procedure that about 35% of MLB pitchers have it at some point in their careers. Pitched 26 seasons (1963-1974, 1976-1989) for six different clubs and had better results in the 14 seasons after the surgery than in the 12 before. Only Nolan Ryan pitched more seasons (27). Unfortunately, his 288 wins weren't enough to get him into the Hall of Fame.

Rocky Horror star Tim Curry dies at 80

He was one of those actors who even when he was under prosthetics and makeup as in IT and Legend, he shone through and he could be 'quintasential Tim Curry' while still being the character, which I think may be the difference between a great actor and a Star. His Frank N Furter will never be bettered.
