I've seen this come up in detail a few times recently so i thought id make a point addressing it

Claim #1:
Northwoods was drafted, signed and presented, this proves the governments willingness to use false flag terror to get what it wants.

It was written up by military personnel and appointed officials, they do not hold the same responsibility to the public as elected officials do (this is why plans such as Northwoods but be approved by elected civilian officials before being carried out)

Northwoods was rejected by Kennedy, proving the unwillingness of elected officials to use false flag terror

Claim #2
Yeah, and Kennedy was killed because of it.

This is a whole other ballpark here, but suffice it to say Oswald didn't know, let alone care, about Northwoods, so i doubt it was a motive.

Furthermore, 6 months after Northwoods was drafted reconnaissance revealed Soviet missile sites in Cuba, its possible the Cuban Missile Crisis played a role in the decision not to implement Northwoods. If this is the case, it is doubtful such a decision would have garnered any reprisal against Kennedy

Claim #3
It still proves that there are people in the government willing to attack their own people to get what they want.

Apparently missing the "false" part of false flag, Northwoods was never intended to kill people (and injuries were listed as a possible "extreme" scenario)

Claim #4
Northwoods says "Casualty lists in us newspapers would cause a helful wave of national indignation." This proves they were going to kill people.

Ignoring the fact that "casualty" does not automatically mean "fatality" the only thing that quote proves is that whoever is citing it never actually read Northwoods. Here is the entire paragraph that quote comes from:

b. We could blow up a drone (unmanned) vessel anywhere in the Cuban waters. We could arrange to cause such incident in the vicinity of Havana or Santiago as a spectacular result of Cuban attack from the air or sea, or both. The presence of Cuban planes or ships merely investigating the intent of the vessel could be fairly compelling evidence that the ship was taken under attack. The nearness to Havana or Santiago would add credibility especially to those people that might have heard the blast or have seen the fire. The US could follow up with an air/sea rescue operation covered by US fighters to "evacuate" remaining members of the non-existent crew. Casualty lists in US newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation.

The "casualties" they would have listed would have been those of the "non-existent crew"

All in all, the plans proposed in Northwoods seem to go well out of their way to prevent anyone from actually being killed or injured, or even exposed to any real danger at all, here are a few more excerpts.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

(11) Sink ship near harbor entrance. Conduct funerals for mock-victims

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

6. Use of MIG type aircraft by US pilots could provide additional provocation. Harassment of civil air, attacks on surface shipping and destruction of US military drone aircraft by MIG type planes would be useful as complementary actions. An F-86 properly painted would convince air passengers that they saw a Cuban MIG, especially if the pilot of the transport were to announce such fact. The primary drawback to this suggestion appears to be the security risk inherent in obtaining or modifying an aircraft. However, reasonable copies of the MIG could be produced from US resources in about three months.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

8. It is possible to create an incident which will demonstrate convincingly that a Cuban aircraft has attacked and shot down a chartered civil airliner enroute from the United States to Jamaica, Guatemala, Panama or Venezuela. The destination would be chosen only to cause the flight plan route to cross Cuba. The passengers could be a group of college students off on a holiday or any grouping of persons with a common interest to support chartering a non-scheduled flight.

a. An aircraft at Eglin AFB would be painted and numbered as an exact duplicate for a civil registered aircraft belonging to a CIA proprietary organization in the Miami area. At a designated time the duplicate would be substituted for the actual civil aircraft and would be loaded with the selected passengers, all boarded under carefully prepared aliases. The actual registered aircraft would be converted to a drone.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

b. Take off times of the drone aircraft and the actual aircraft will be scheduled to allow a rendezvous south of Florida. From the rendezvous point the passenger-carrying aircraft will descend to minimum altitude and go directly into an auxiliary field at Eglin AFB where arrangements will have been made to evacuate the passengers and return the aircraft to its original status. The drone aircraft meanwhile will continue to fly the filed flight plan. When over Cuba the drone will being transmitting on the international distress frequency a "MAY DAY" message stating he is under attack by Cuban MIG aircraft. The transmission will be interrupted by destruction of the aircraft which will be triggered by radio signal.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

9. It Is possible to create an incident which will make it appear that Communist Cuban MIGs have destroyed a USAF aircraft over international waters in an unprovoked attack.

even with the existance of this "document" if its real and I am not assuming it is, the switching of 4 civilian aircraft with real in them for remote controlled aircraft over US land is impossible. We have to dismis recorded phone calls from the planes, accounts of family members of passangers receiving calls, air traffic controllers noticing nothing, nearby civilian aircraft, eyewitness accounts from NY and D.C., most of which does not jive with the gov't plan, the existance of explosives in 3 skyscrapers that mysteriously got into them with no exlpanation of where they came from or who put them there. Its seems impossible for the U.S. gov't to be behind it this complicated of a plan. It seems easier for the gov't to brian wash 19 men to hijack planes, take them over with boxcutters and crash them into buildings than what the 9/11 truth movement claims to have happaned.

Northwoods was a study - not an OPPLAN or OPORD. It was nixed by the political leadership.

Regardless of what Northwoods is, or was, it "happened" 44 years ago. Because A performed B is not proof that C performed D. OK?

Just a passing thought. Any relationship viable between Northwoods and the new Dr. Who breakaway Torchwood?

Anyone want to send the link to this thread to Dylan? If I'm not mistaken, Northwoods will be playing a rather prominent role in LC:FC. I'd really hate to see him put out an easily debunked "dockumentary" three times in a row now.

This is what gets me about Northwood.

According to the cters the greatest hoax of all time is carried out. This hoax is carried out based on a secret plans and is documented.

Yet it is released into public domain for everybody to see.

Maybe it's me, I just don't get it.

Here's how Northwoods should be used in the CT: You present evidence, lots of it, buld a strong case with it, and then as an afterthought you say 'in case you think the government would never contemplate such a thing we have Northwoods' and then you move on, quickly, because the existence a crazy plan the government never acted on decades ago proves NOTHING!

I must admit I'm confused at the willingness of everyone so easily dismissing an actual plan. It wasn't a study as one person mentioned.

I'm starting to notice people on the official story side start to completely dismiss important facts just as they do on the other side of this debate.

Northwoods got all the way up to the President so there was several individuals that actually wanted to carry it out.

I'm going to look around to see what everyone has said about Gulf of Tonkin, Operation Gladio etc...

I am clearly seeing a pattern on both sides.

Everything isn't a government conspiracy just as much as everything can't be debunked.

I would think there probably are some pretty crazy Northwoods type plans out there in the government. Hopefully we'll use one against France one day.

I have no problem believing that the CIA/NSA/FBI/whatever has lots of plans like this to be used at such a time to discredit whatever country/leader they want to.

They did a pretty darn good job against Saddam. It wouldn't suprise me if there are some intel ops against Kadaffi, Kim Jong IL, or Ahmadenijad. We'll never know what goes on in the shadowy world of intel.

We have plans for invading Canada for gods sake!

Here's the rub though. NO ONE GETS KILLED IN THESE OPS!!!!!

Oooooh, Saddam shot at our planes. Did he really or was it a intel op to garner support for a policy? I wouldn't put it past Saddam to shoot at allied planes, but it could easily be a propaganda story.

No one was killed. No one was planned to be killed.

Just like Northwoods.

But purposefully killing 3000 citizens. What a ridiculous load of carp.

What i've never understood is why the CT crowd believe that Northwood SUPPORT their theory.

Assuming Northwood is legit (and I think it is), it is a interesting example of what a country would be willing to do to produce a casus belli, and as others mentionned, the plan is mainly constructed around fake attacks, fake plane crashes, mock funerals, etc. In other words, a relatively simple plan that do not involve a lot of people, and is performed "out of sight" and thus have a realistic chance of succeeding. And note that, dispites all this, Kennedy refused to apply it.

But now, they want to use the same plan to support an 9/11 conspiracy involving thousands of death, hundreds of conspirators, and the large scale destruction of very important american landmarks and the center of the country economic power? In other words, a plan that is everything but what Northwood was trying to accomplish?

I just don't get it. What Northwood proves is how stupid the whole 9/11 conspiracy is. If Bush really wanted to justify an Iraq invasion, he could have engineered something much simpler and especially much safer (and involving Iraqis instead of, you know, Saudis Arabians who are supposed to be our great allies to begin with...).

Why do you need evidence for something that has never occured in history before? You can't

Zouprime,

I agree completely.

Why not just claim that there was a Nuke test in Iraq. Show some sattelite pics and seismic charts and viola, instant causus belli. Could anyone really dispute it?

I mean aside from KJI claiming to have tested a nuke, can anyone else independently verify it? So far, some countries say yes, and some (like France) say it didn't happen.

There are so many easier and far more effective ways to get in to a war.

It wasn't a study as one person mentioned.

I made that claim and I stand by it. The document calls itself a study when it states that it is in response to a request for scenarios in which the US could become involved militarily with Cuba. That's what an commissioned study does. The document itself is also missing the markup one would expect for an OPPLAN (operational plan) or OPORD (operational order.)

Even OPPLANs can not be claimed to show intent on behalf of the government. Though they have been vetted somewhat politically, they have not been approved to be executed. They have to be promoted to OPORD before they can be carried out.

actually upon further research theres no record kennedy ever saw northwoods

it was a collection of memoranda from the joint cheifs and it was submitted to the secretary of defense, thats where the official paper trail ends, it never got any further than that

so no, there really werent that many people who necessarily wanted it to go ahead
