Nordic countries may finally ban circumcision.

I'm sure you could use that emotive assertion to justify FGM, as well.

It's always been based on ass-backwards reasoning in the US. First it was to stop boys from masturbating, and now it's because of fears that women won't find it attractive.

I suspect that "we can charge for it" has always been a factor. In the UK after the NHS stopped paying the circumcision rate dropped considerably.

They can do restorations? That's good to know.
They featured a guy on Penn & Teller's: B.S. who showed how to do a restoration.

Nothing surgical or anything... but, I guess the skin stretches and new tissue is formed. He basically tied a small weight with an elastic band to provide some tension. (Not sure how long it took.)

I see what you did there. :D

Ever see an uncircumcised penis?? UGH! :jaw-dropp

You don't like the look of it.

So what?

How are esthetic concerns in any way justification for an unnecessary surgery performed on a person who cannot consent?

I'm someone doesn't like the look, let them decide when they're old enough to make an informed choice.

Yet another reason to like Norway and the Nordic countries.

Been around for a while. See 1 Maccabees 1
11 At that time there appeared in the land of Israel a group of traitorous Jews who had no regard for the Law and who had a bad influence on many of our people. They said, Let's come to terms with the Gentiles, for our refusal to associate with them has brought us nothing but trouble. 12 This proposal appealed to many people, 13 and some of them became so enthusiastic about it that they went to the king and received from him permission to follow Gentile customs. 14 They built in Jerusalem a stadium like those in the Greek cities. 15 They had surgery performed to hide their circumcision, abandoned the holy covenant, started associating with Gentiles, and did all sorts of other evil things.

Indeed. Hopefully that day will come soon.

Yes. Mine. Also the majority of penises I see.

Yes.

Yes.

:)

Being a female RN, I have seen thousands of penises and truth be told if one has been seen then all have been seen but uncircumcised are unappealing. :jaw-dropp

Unappealing to you, maybe. Aesthetics and personal choice are not good reasons to continue with non-consensual surgery on infants.

In the UK where the norm is not to circumcise infants, I have only known [in the Biblical sense :D ] one man who was cut. He regretted it, not least because it set him apart from his mates at school who were not cut.

None of my three sons has been circumcised, and while it's not a subject I particularly discuss with their partners, they really don't seem to find my sons unappealing.

¡Excellent!

We should definitely ban nontherapeutic sexual genital mutilation of boys and girls.

I predict that the pædophiles will jump on this thread and decry the loss of their right to sexually assault and mutilate their children. The perverts will undoubtedly claim that it is their right under religion. With that argument, members of the Ku Klux Klan (an organization only accepting evangelical white christians) can lynch all of the nonevangelical nonwhite nonchristians they want, if they claim that lynching nonevangelical nonwhite nonchristians is a tenet of their religion:

If we allowing religious exemptions for sexual assault and mutilation, then many violent convicted felons in prison will claim that sexually assaulting people is part of their religion. We would have to release them. If we do not, we would be hypocrites.

I had a woman I used to date tell me once that she would never get with a man who wasn't circumcised.

She had given me a BJ on more than one occasion, and I'm uncut.

I find it hard to believe you're not trolling.

- Abuse? No, this is tradition! It's an important part of our faith!

- Faith? Oh, then it's alright!

- Sorry for the disturbance.

ETA: This is a caricature posted in Dagbladet, one of Norway's largest national newspapers, during the circumcision debate last year.

That's ok, we all like different things. However, I put my foot down if you suggest I should've been surgically altered at birth to fit your sense of aestethics.

I've seen some pictures. I have to say, I find scars unappealling.

Rolfe.

I was going to make a similar comment. But then, I've heard some girls find scars on a man attractive. I just didn't know that included the penis.. :p
