Noam Chomsky: Sports is a capitalist conspiracy

I confess I never did understand what it is about watching sport that so many people seem to find absorbing. It bores me to death, unless it involves shapely young women in skimpy outfits.
I have long seen sport as like sex- If you do it yourself, it's fun: If you pay to watch professionals do it, it's pornography.

Whether pornography is also a capitalist conspiracy is a question I leave to the internet economists.

I have enjoyed watching sport. I watched the heck out of the Olympic fencing, and I've even watched an occasional game of rugby. But I can't understand following one particular team, and I outright reject the resulting tribalism that Urg supports.
