Noah reviews

A lot of the critical reviews I've seen since yesterday are pretty positive... Most seem to like the "environmental disaster" cautionary-tale spin on the thing.

Does the movie include the love scene between Noah and his daughters?

Damn you!

Now I have an image of a drunken Russell Crowe getting it on with Jennifer Connolly and Emma Watson.

Man, I wish there were video.

TBH, I don't even know if they are his daughters, but one can fantasiz^H^H^H I mean, wish.

My own headdesk moment was Crowe's comment in the interview: "This story is contained in every religious text. Noah is in the Qu'ran. "

...he apparently doesn't realize that the Qu'ran also includes what Christians call the Old Testament.

And there isn't a "Noah and the Flood" in any ancient Egyptian religious text (or in Hindu religious texts until 700 BC -- long after they encounter the Mesopotamians.) In fact, many cultures with "flood myths" (Irish) don't actually acquire them until after Christians arrive in the land.

Hmm, so this movie is about a biblical story. It takes a few liberties and that upsets lots of Christians. Kinda makes me want to see it now.

I kind of like how Bill Maher put it: something to the effect of “They’re mad because this made up story doesn’t stay true to their made up story.”

And then there's this - apparently, "God" isn't mentioned even once in the entire movie :D
Atheist director of 'Noah' calls it the 'least biblical film ever made'

Funny thing is that the Christian fundamentalists who are now howling in outrage about the movie will find themselves on the same side as the Islamic fundamentalists who were poo-pooing the movie weeks ago.

:)

I was hanging out in mixed company last night when the previews came on...in a fit of honesty I blurted: "Ah, the epic of Gilgamesh comes to the big screen at last, awesome!"...Thirty seconds later..."Ah, nevermind, it's the reboot"...I don't think anyone got it, but it helped me amuse myself for the rest of the evening.

I chuckled at reading that.

But honestly, what percentage of the population do you think knows about previous flood myth, or even knows that "gilgamesh" name...

Politics may make strange bedfellows but religion has you sleeping with Satan.

If they've heard the name they probably think it refers to a type of fishing net.
