On the several vists I've made, I've certainly liked the country and, mostly, the people. I find northern Belgium anaesthetically dull scenery-wise, but it has the ace art-and-architecture stuff; and the south of the country is scenically very attractive.

I like the culture and the people.The Flemish are a very tolerant,hospitable and peaceful lot.They go out to socialise in bars,not to get drunk and pour out into the street at 2 pm and cause mayhem as they do in Britain.I've been here for 34 years now and I've never seen a fight in a bar.

Due to the precarious political/linguistic situation we've learnt not to be very nationalistic. The only things keeping up a kind of national pride are beer and chocolate

I was going to say, what about waffles? But I realized that those are regional, too - Liege and Brussels. Although one of my friends insists there is an Antwerp waffle, and took me out for one.

I love Belgium too, by the way. Especially Leuven. I'm not sure there's a better town anywhere, but it may just be the friends I have there.

I've liked the folks just fine, in the main. Recall an unpleasant scene with a obnoxious restaurant-proprietor in Ostend; but there are a few a***holes amongst any people. Overall, was gratified by what seemed a higher degree of harmony between Flemings and Walloons, than repute had suggested. Of course, people being nice to each other isn't news-worthy...

Leuven is a fine place.Try a night out in Gent sometime.
