That is what happens when there is a blanket news blackout for over twelve hours.

From the police press conference we can glean that one man died, two are critically injured in hospital and eight have non-life-threatening injuries and have been discharged from hospital.

The big takeaway is that THERE IS ONE LONE INDIVIDUAL WHO IS THE SUSPECT AND IS STILL ON THE LOOSE.

I think given the news blackout, this is politically sensitive so perhaps people can draw their own conclusion as to the nature of the stabbings.

*sigh* There's not been a "blanket news blackout" - that's your imagination working overtime again. Indeed, the media have been talking/writing about these incidents as headline news for hours now.

The sole issue is that there's been very little reliable information coming out for the media to report. Coupled to which, the media - understandably and correctly - do not want to start speculating, especially in the area of potential motive (particularly where things like race/religion/sexuality discrimination might or might not have played a part).

Radio 4 reported it a lot this morning and it referred to mass fights. People can draw their own conclusions as to why some people are emphasising a news blackout, a political aspect and one individual.

Seriously? There is not ONE description of this rampaging knifeman? Linked to four different areas in Birmingham? Not one single person able to describe his appearance or CCTV image or phone image, so that the good people of Birmingham can help police (a) identify him (b) know to avoid him and (c) report any sighting of him?

How peculiar! They are all indeed dated and timed some twelve hours after the incident. Try again?

Fact is Birmingham city centre on a Saturday night is swarming with people. Are you seriously claiming there was not one single phone video or tweet about what was going on.

So we now know Big Brother society is determining what news we get and what news we don't.

Oh for heaven's sake.

Incredulity is all you have?

As I said, the media are obviously holding back on anything which is speculative and/or unreliable, for the (also obvious) reasons I gave above. It's absolutely nothing to do with "news blackouts" of any sort.

I think if an invasion or war broke out in your part of the world, you would want to know about it STRAIGHTAWAY not twelve hours later.

I can remember a time when the press were magnificent and reported news as it developed. Now it is all centralised and we have to wait for Dominic Cummings types to rubber stamp it for public release.

How about this media report then - first published at around 8.45am (only a few hours after the incidents):

Bollocks. They are mostly 'live update' pages, showing the time of the most recent update.

Are you claiming that the incident took place around 8pm yesterday?

Oh, hang on, one of them was published about 7. That pushes it back another hour.

I think if an invasion or war broke out in your part of the world, you would want to know about it STRAIGHTAWAY not twelve hours later.
Which has what to do with a stabbing incident in Birmingham?

I can remember a time when the press were magnificent and reported news as it developed. Now it is all centralised and we have to wait for Dominic Cummings types to rubber stamp it for public release.
Those days before social media, when the only way to know about things was from the press, so how would you know things were being reported as things developed, since there was no alternative way to verify the reports?

You do know it's dark at night?
