....
But here we have 2 people actually admitting their guilt to what is a crime (and one that is possibly punishable). I do have to wonder if they'd stick by their claims if they were actually facing jail time.
....

Note that these are two guys who apparently are each claiming separately to be the one who assaulted Ford. They're not saying they know each other or acted together. Even if one is telling the truth, the other has to be lying.

so your argument is that everyone should settle for the lesser evil? dream on.

Barrett is embarrassingly underqualified, so she won't cut it even for hyper-partisan Republicans.
But the major point is that the Democrats will have fought an unwinnable battle and won - and Republicans, in control of all parts of government, can't even manage a straight-forward nomination.

Rule of So.

listen folks, when you type the word "So" to start your post, really stop yourself and ask: Do i really want to embarrass myself with this silly strawman?

It is gratifying to see you say that Kavanaugh is well qualified, tho.

I don't think the FBI has any more authority to compels answers from a physician than congress does.

Ford has already arranged for the shrink (we don't know that she's a physician) to provide her notes and talk to the Post reporters for the initial story. She could give her permission to answer questions from the FBI, if she hasn't already done so.

Saw a little bit of the Ford testimony.

Wow. It is possible she has been very well coached and is acting a part. Quaver in her voice most of the time despite my impression she is a strong woman who could be more assertive. I would like to see a video of her in her class.

She is 100% certain! Gee. And I am told that my "supernatural" experiences happened as I firmly remember the key points. And I am told that I must be mistaken. Faulty memory!

Leland Keyser was at the party. This is what Keyser has said:

“Simply put, Ms. Keyser does not know Mr. Kavanaugh and she has no recollection of ever being at a party or gathering where he was present, with, or without, Dr. Ford.”

Durbin wants to subpoena Ford, i assume he wants to hear from leland too?

How cute. You think the Republicans would vote against someone because they were underqualified.

Betsy DeVos says hi.

But the major point is that the Democrats will have fought an unwinnable battle and won - and Republicans, in control of all parts of government, can't even manage a straight-forward nomination.
Plus, withdrawing Kavanauh will do a few other things:

- To many people it makes people think he was probably guilty. Thus, the Republicans (and Trump) pushed to have a rapist appointed to the supreme court. Even if they failed, they still tried their hardest

- To the republican faithful who have tried to support and apologize for Kavanaugh, it will be demoralizing. "The republicans are caving in. I won't bother voting next time"

- I believe another poster pointed out that there is an upcoming supreme court case involving the rights of states to prosecute people for things that are also federal crimes. This might impact Trump's inability to pardon people for state crimes. Keeping Kavanaugh off the supreme court means that a potential swing vote that would benefit Trump won't be involved

There are a few possibilities:

- That these people actually were the guilty party and had a bout of remorse years later.
- Ford was assaulted by Kavanaugh, and these people actually assaulted some other girl but got the identity of their victim wrong.
- These people had nothing to do with the crime but decided to claim that they did it in order to protect Kavanaugh for some reason
You forgot the possibility that they are just looking for their 15 minutes of fame.
Well, I kind of thought that fit in with option 3: they didn't do it but decided to claim guilt for some reason.

Would be a rather strange way to get their "15 minutes of fame". Couldn't they just eat a Tide Pod on youtube?

I'm not sure you can draw that conclusion. If you take her at her word, we know she said it - not that the therapist wrote it down.

I've never been in therapy, nor am a therapist, so I accept I'm not in a qualified position to comment, but I don't think you can assume that the therapist would have taken such detailed notes. Ford doesn't say that she's seen the notes, only that she said the name. Is it usual practice for therapists to note down such specific details?
I don't think a therapist would write down the name, though he/she could well have taken detailed notes. Using an initial could happen if it was a significant issue in her life. Or maybe a description of someone "in a position of public trust."

The entire circumstances of the Kavanaugh appointment have really put me off the guy.
- A hundred thousand pages of unreleased documents when George W. thought just 27,000 should be withheld.
- His precarious financial position bothers me; maybe it shouldn't but it does. How did he pay off the credit card debt?
- The fact that he got all huffy when described as a member of the Federalist Society, making sure the record reflected that he resigned. Then claiming continuous membership on his Senate questionnaire.
- His appearance on the extremely partisan venue, Fox News, to the exclusion of other venues. (Although that would bother me too).

Something about the guy is not adding up.

Truth would be nice to have.
But since this is not a trial, reasonable doubt of the innocence of Kavanaugh should be enough, given the importance and length of the appointment.

Too bad, because Thirsty's client's story is more far fetched that the 4chan story.

And yet she exists.

the Poet is your hero, the admitted fabricator and mope Seth.

And here I'd have thought you might have learnt a lesson about choosing to believe what you'd like to be true, rather than forming your opinions based on what is actually true. Actually, that's a lie. I didn't think you'd do that at all. But you should probably consider it.

I'm not following this closely so may be mistaken but are Republicans claiming both that the assault never happened and that it wasn't Kavenaugh because two other men have claimed to have done it?

Wait, are you claiming that Seth abramson is not The Poet? Or that he is not an admitted fabricator? Or something else?

How do you arrive at that position? If that is too philosophical,it can be ignored.

there is currently one seat open on the Supreme Court.
There are something like 1,2 million people in the US working in a legal profession.
So by pure supply and demand, we can be choosy.

Typically a Supreme Court nominee would not be making public statements at all. He would let others speak on his behalf. The fact that this longtime Repub operative took his story to Fox -- and Fox alone -- speaks volumes.
