After seeing what happened to Ted Cruz when he and his wife tried to have dinner, I can't imagine why he still wants it. He'll have a lifetime appointment as the rapist judge. He'll be a pariah. His family life will be ruined. The other children will tell his kids what their parents say about him.

Possibly because he believes in his ideology and thinks it's worth whatever personal sacrifice comes up? That kind of hardship has been know to steel certain people more. I know I'm of that kind.

That is a charitable explanation. There are others.

This seems to be an argument in favor of allowing any faction to derail any confirmation, by producing a steady trickle of "accusations" that aren't "compelling" but still "deserve some investigation" for some reason.

What's your alternative? Confirming everyone without looking into whether they have a history that could be damaging to the institution or if he can do the job?

That is a terrible analogy.

Well, it was a terrible argument, so there.

And dirty tricks they would have been. And - knowing me - I might even have hypocritically tried to excuse such tricks.

Doesn't that give you pause?

Is his wife? Are his kids of that type? How many times will they be willing to hear the CNN legal analyst say, "Given his past behavior toward women, Justice Kavanagh is almost certainly to decide against the plaintiff".

"We are aware of significant evidence of multiple house parties in the Washington, D.C., area during the early 1980s during which Brett Kavanaugh, Mark Judge and others would participate in the targeting of women with alcohol/drugs in order to allow a ‘train’ of men to subsequently gang rape them.”
-- Michael Avenatti (Sept 23, 2018)
Thank you.

I am not suggesting anything. I'm arguing that his recollection of the name in 2018 is not good evidence that the name came up in 2012.

It's unverifiable evidence unless he told someone else about Kavanaugh attacking his wife before 2018. From Ford's history of not discussing this trauma with anyone other than her therapist and her husband, I rather doubt Mr. Ford was blabbing about his wife's private trauma to his buddies.

Right now he's Daniel in the lion's den. We will see if his God will bring him through the night unscathed (or relatively so).

Kavanaugh has debts that were paid off by a mysterious third party. I believe that third party paid off those debts in exchange for him voting certain ways once confirmed. As such he is now indebted to this entity and has to be on the court or else they will come to collect. Since he wants to keep the money, and his knees, he has no choice but to continue to fight to get confirmed.

There's no requirement that rape, including gang rape, involve violence. Or at least there shouldn't be.

Having sexual intercourse, or performing an equivalent act, with someone that's unconscious or otherwise incapacitated and unable to consent is still rape yet i would not necessarily call it violent.
Maybe this is off topic but are you saying if you restrain someone against their will with drugs that's not violent but restraining them with ropes or cuffs would be? How about if the perp is gentle with the ropes?

I've seen nothing on this. Citation, please?

You weren't asking me, but yes and yes. How would either case constitute the commission of violence?

I think they feel it is.

However, now that the GOP playbook is out in the open, it's rather easy to counter it by simply packing the court with more judges. The GOP has taken a system that works because it's supposed to be non-partisan and made it super partisan and thus broken it. Democrats can either roll over and accept the GOP walking all over them and the system, or they can take the broken system to its limits, thus possibly prompting a switch to a system that works.

I predict that the Democrats will roll over and the Republicans will continue to harbor power because of it. We're in the situation we're in because they've always rolled over.

So Ford’s lawyer wrote a letter saying that she felt she was being treated unfairly.

She gonna show up Thursday?

Vote Friday one way or another I expect because the republicans are being played for chumps at this point.
