You don't. You open up an investigation to find out which side is right.

Wrong. You include it in the FBI background as founded or unfounded as they interview others to determine possible validity of the claim. This isn't a criminal procedure, and never would be one.

It may be helpful to know I am a woman who has been assaulted by drunken scumbags on occasion. They often sound like YOU. Go ahead and prove your case. I'll wait.

Is it your history that makes you lash out with baseless personal attacks against people you don't know?

As for evidence, I'll take the testimony of victims with everything to lose by coming forward, knowing that the scum of the Republican party will do everything in their power to dismiss them while making their lives miserable.

I'm aware of the statistic. However, the statistic doesn't mean you get a free do-over thirty years later.

Especially do-overs with strategically impeccable partisan timing.
Or you see your attacker on TV, in the media day after day and you see him praised as being of great character and is about to be awarded the highest position for his profession and you think "enough is enough".

But they didn't do that. The FBI reported what your first year police academy recruit could've found - that he has no criminal record. (No we haven't seen the report but do you think that the leaky sieve that is the GOP Caucus had something from the FBI saying "Many of the usual prep school brat accusations out there but nothing that bears up under scrutiny...." they wouldn't be broadcasting it.

The DOJ (via lack of any instructions from their boss in the WH) are not interested in putting the FBI on it. The admin tried to rush this through without turning over thousands of pages of background material.

With Republicans so fond of investigations, investigatory committees, second investigatory committees, crackerjack new and improved investigatory committees, and on and on and on.... Wouldn't you think they'd be chomping at the bit to get this done properly and cleanly?

haha. I'm not bitter, damaged...nor have I ever been raped if you must know. I'm just a beautiful female human in a world where that is something desired by male humans- less so now that I am older. It comes with the territory. I'm also an introvert so it's always so weird to have the attention.

if you don't wish to hear my persepctive on my dealings with males and of females who DO both 'tell the truth' AND lie for seemingly minimal gain of basic revenge and also through things like child custody, then just ignore my posts. thx. It's a very small percent. of my human interactions of my life, but it happens -- especially when stakes are high.

And I'm sick of this accusation of strategic timing. Not only does it imply the presence of a conspiracy, but it ignores the simple fact that the Republican scumbags can hold a vote anytime they want. Grassleyscum made that very clear last week.

No, you're wrong. You have the FBI do a background investigation on the claims to see if there is credibility to it. This isn't a criminal procedure, it's a vetting of a lifetime judicial appointment.

You just agreed with exactly what I said. It's vetting, not criminal. Just background on the nominee.

???

Kavanaugh knows whether or not they are false. He should not step down if they are false. He should not step down just because he is accused, even if he cannot prove to other people that the accusations are false.
From an outsiders view (the UK has nothing like your SC nomination process) I disagree. Sometimes life just isn't fair and you have to accept that. Like I said earlier if you believe that a role you are being put forward for is more important than the individual there are times when you have to say something like "I'm innocent of the accused wrong doing but I believe the position is more important than me and these schenigans harms the role so I'm withdrawing".

1. I didn't ask.
2. Then the personal attack on me was purely gratuitous. Good to know.

Are you saying you looked at the evidence of assault here and concluded it happened before a family's life was destroyed by a woman who you do not know? If you have evidence or you do know her, then I do apologize. It would explain your emotional bias. I believe my friends too for the most part..

If I'm emotional, it's because this country is currently being ruled by a minority devoid of ethics and morality. This is simply the latest example of how little they care about doing what's right.

I think the GOP and Grassley in particularly were envisioning another Clarence Thomas situation. More important, Kavanaugh's handlers are definitely expecting that. Thomas rode out the accusations and is still sitting there as the most conservative vote on the Court.

Now, I'm hard pressed to imagine Kavanaugh getting away with accusing the panel of "a lynching", but with everyone in the country currently being fingered as a sexual predator, they reckoned on being able to sell this to the entire GOP Senate rather easily.

I hate to say it but Grassley was right. They should have rammed it through for a vote last week. They're afraid of November, though, so decided to give it the pretense of being fair and opened the door to several more accusations. If they rushed the vote, they'd be jeopardizing not just the House (already seriously in play) but also the Senate.

The winning move for the GOP will not be played, I think. Withdraw his name and make hay of it in all your political ads through the election. Play him up as a martyr to the cause and blame the feminazis. Submit someone else from the El Creepo Federalist Society recruiting list. I think the GOP aren't willing to do that.... yet.

That's because in addition to being ethically bankrupt, they're stupid [and seem proud of it].

They cannot withdraw unless Kavenaugh does so himself. it's really a horrible precedent for tactics on both side going forward don't you think?
Last day before confirmation...; guilty of collusion with russians!! Assault of a minor! Illegal stock tip!! Hit and run!! All of these could be brought by political operatives without merit. We ALL know this!! the consequence of a less liberal court going forward could erase all of the more liberal gains.. THIS brings out ALL tHE STOPS...including some means that lead to ends.

To think otherwise is to think that we don't care who gets elected in Russia, or Germany, or Venezuela. We do. We interfere. Same with the court. SCOTUs is 1/3 of the equation after all and many times the one that moves everything forward.

btw...I think we will see some craaaaaaazy stuff this week.

12-hour news cycles of side vs side. We might not even be able to determine who is who for some. It will be just leak, and innuendo, and accusation, and insinuation. Constant. All week.
