Collins finds a temporary backbone again:

“I was appalled by the president’s tweet,” Collins said. “First of all, we know that allegations of sexual assault – I’m not saying that’s what happened in this case – but we know allegations of sexual assault are one of the most unreported crimes that exist. So I thought that the president’s tweet was completely inappropriate and wrong.”

“I do think that both she and Judge Kavanaugh need to testify under oath, but I believe we should attempt to make this as comfortable a process for her as possible,” Collins said. “To me Monday is the preferred date but I don’t see a problem with delaying to Wednesday or Thursday.”

I am somewhat surprised at the reaction here though. I'd be very surprised if folks regarded a five year old accusation of something that happened 30 years before was a good reason to not hire someone for anything outside of politics.

Also, having her to testify in front of the senate is pointless. They could accomplish everything they need by having here submit a signed statement. There's no reason to have her go through the **** of a public hearing. But then the Senator's wouldn't be able to grandstand on camera if they did that.

That is all peripheral. The central and very pertinent question: Is he lying about the incident today?

Unfortunately, its possible that we will never really know. As I have said, I am of the opinion that neither of them is necessarily lying.

Separate issue, you got to give it to Trump for essentially going with, Its not the FBI's jurisdiction and they should have investigated 30 years ago. And it seems he doesn't believe it because he's always just paid people of to shut up about his assaults? I really can't tell if he's got dementia but I suspect he does.

But isn’t it then the purpose of a deeper investigation as well as more detailed questioning of the parties involved to get a better sense of who may be lying?

He did this-No I didn’t. That isn’t much help for, say, a domestic dispute much less a lifetime appointment to a position that will likely have a decades-long effect on millions.

Unless there's contemporaneous documentary evidence that the incident occurred substantially as described, I don't think there's any way to know the answer to that. Which is probably why the FBI didn't bother to follow up on Ford's letter in July.

Regnad Kcin masks the source URL in his post, even though the URL provides important information for judging the post. That is dishonest, in my opinion.

In addition, calling it out explicitly as fake news ensures that people just skimming the thread and confirming their biases have a fair shot and not accidentally believing it's a true headline.

Well, mousing over reveals it's a link to the Onion, and it was rightly mentioned that satire does not fall under fake news, otherwise fair point.
