So? This is a skeptics forum. I thought we all knew lie detectors are BS? :)
There's a difference between not good enough for court and has some relevance.

I hate Trump. I don't know a lot about Kavanaugh, but since Trump picked him, then he probably is not someone I would support. However, if the allegations are true, then I don't think that is what should prevent him from getting the job.

They were teenagers at the time. Who here didn't do some stupid **** when they were that age? It's possible they were all drunk and he got too aggressive. There are lots of other possibilities too. No, it should not have happened, but is nobody allowed to ever mess up even when young and dumb? This culture of outrage has got out of hand.
Except like cadet bone spurs, it may not have been a one-off but rather repeating behavior on a regular basis.

They are.

However, many/most people don't know that. Assuming she didn't know they were B.S. ...
Oh puhleese!

I'm not the poorly informed person here. Looks like some people can only think in black and white about such things a polygraphs.

Stupid stuff is one thing. Putting a teenage girl in fear for her life during a drunken assault is something else. I don't think most teenage boys have done that. ...
Definitely most teenage boys do not behave in this way. But it's common enough I'd bet most teenage girls have experienced it.

Happened to me on three different occasions but then I maybe got around more than some girls.

I believe you think what really matters is party of the perjurer.

Nonsense. The seriousness of the offense is what matters. Fibbing about a consensual affair is a very mild offense. Denying the use of, and of coordinating the use of stolen documents is a much more serious offense and for a life-time appointment is even more relevant.

Yes, it is broken. When Brett is confirmed, the Republicans will have ensured it stays broken and is much harder to repair.

It's not like they won't be able to find another evil scumbag to fill the spot. Can we at least have one that hasn't been credibly accused of sexual assault? That seems like a really low bar to clear when handing out a lifetime appointment to the highest court.

Tragically, I'm sure that's true. I just meant the "boys will be boys" line doesn't wash.

If that's what you really believe, the way I see it you have three options: Emigrate to Canada, or get to working on that Second Amendment solution.

So. Which will it be, tbk?

Or, work to get more than enough votes to overcome the fascist rule of the minority. I'll go that route.

True. However, they've demonstrated that they have no respect for the rules and traditions that they supposedly were so important to them before. They've stolen one SCOTUS seat and this time, they are trying to ram another through without proper vetting. They are hiding Brett's past because they know the guy is garbage, even for the low bar they've set. This is the most opaque SCOTUS confirmation process in generations, if not ever.

The tradition of "innocent until proven guilty" is all but dead, but you can't place the blame solely on Trump and Kavanaugh for its demise.

There were a lot more than three participants. We'll be hearing from other people at the party, assuming a party ever happened.

Kavanaugh claimed today that the incident never occurred, and that until the name was released, he didn't know who it was. If the "he might think" above was his version of events, he could have still instantly recognized the identity of the woman even before the name was released, assuming he didn't make a habit of such incredibly aggressive sexual behavior.

We're already seeing adolescent friends and acquaintances start appearing and talking. There will be testimony. There will be questions. Either her story will completely unravel, or his will, or both. At this point, the real question is not his behavior as a 17 year old, but his behavior last week. Through his denials, he is accusing the woman of slander, and he is doing it today, not in his adolescence. If it comes out that he is lying, he shouldn't be confirmed. If the story is uncorroborated with any other witnesses or other evidence, it shouldn't stand in the way.

Stay tuned for a week of sex, lies, and we can only hope no videotape.
Or open your eyes a bit further, maybe things will clear up a bit.

Woman accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault comes forward
Ford said she remembers that it was in Montgomery County, not far from the country club, and that no parents were home at the time. Ford named two other teenagers who she said were at the party. Those individuals did not respond to messages on Sunday.
So his buddy Judge (how ironic) is sticking by him, I wonder if the other two were also males? I'm going to guess they were not all male unless she was invited to a party that wasn't a party.

Judge is a filmmaker who has written for the Daily Caller, The Weekly Standard, and The Washington Post. He chronicled his recovery from alcoholism in ‘‘Wasted: Tales of a Gen-X Drunk,’’ which described his own blackout drinking and a culture of partying among students at his high school.

Kavanaugh is not mentioned in the book, but a passage about partying at the beach makes glancing reference to a ‘‘Bart O’Kavanaugh,’’ who ‘‘puked in someone’s car the other night’’ and ‘‘passed out on his way back from a party.’’

If Kavanaugh is anything like his friend, Judge, more is going to come out about that.

innocent until proven guilty is the standard of evidence of the courts before locking somebody up. The standard of evidence for getting a job has a somewhat different threshold of evidence.

Raises hand. When I was 17 I would come home from school, lock myself in my room and read books until bedtime. No secret stash of weed. No underage drinking. No parties or sneaking out. I was, incredibly, more boring as a teenager than I am now as a 40 year old.

The guy is not on trial, it's a job interview. The standards are and always have been different.
