New rightwing faux-outrage: Reagan's home could become parking lot for Obama library

So says William J. Kelly, "an Emmy award-winning TV producer and conservative columnist" who is "also a contributor to the American Spectator and Breitbart.com", at the Moonie Times.

It seems Reagan used to live in an apartment in a certain apartment building that the University of Chicago has bought and plans to bulldoze into a parking lot.

Strangely, though Kelly waxes poetic about how the young Reagan spent his idyllic days there dreaming about being a firefighter and how his "formative years" spent in Chicago helped shape him into a "great man" and a "great president", he somehow manages to neglect to inform his readers that Reagan only lived in this "historic home" for just a single year, when he was four years old (and where he was sick with pneumonia). From 1914 to 1920, the Reagan family moved from Tampico, Illinois (where Reagan was born), to a succession of six different rental dwellings in three different cities. Apparently each and every one of those is a sacred site and has been rendered inviolable for having been touched, however briefly, by Saint Reagan.

As for where Obama comes into this, apparently the UofC is lobbying to be the site of the future Obama Presidential Library, and despite the fact that it'll be at least four years before Obama even leaves office and the University covers 211 acres near downtown Chicago, obviously Saint Reagan's home here is being flattened specifically so Obama's library can be placed right on top of the site, thus defiling it. Because Obama's just evil like that.

The most hysterically...well, hysteric reaction is at this blog full of stupid (which has an entire category tab for "The Obamas"), where the headline reads "Obama To Build His Victory Mosque on the Site of Reagan’s Childhood Home?"

I think he should actually do that just out of spite, and top the minarets with full-mast middle finger salute statues (complete with lightning rods, don't need a repeat of Touchdown Jesus).

It shouldn't, because I'm a historian, but I still pause every time I see something like:

From 1914 to 1920, the Reagan family moved from Tampico, Illinois (where Reagan was born), to a succession of six different rental dwellings in three different cities.

Just because the guy who was President when I first gained cognition was older than World War One.

I have to admit that the thought of some of my fellow conservatives' heads exploding over this made me chuckle.

Judging solely off of a few choice reactions, you might've thought that Obama had personally dug up the ol' Gipper's remains and thrown them in the nearest dumpster.

There's an idea!

That's nothing. I heard that Obama wants to tear down the very historic building that once housed the pet store where Dolly Madison once purchased a seed bell for her canary! Doesn't he ever tire of destroying America?

The comments are priceless. I liked this response to a commet that called Obama a NAZI and a socialist in the same sentence,

Ok, make up your mind: nazi (Hitler) or commie. He can't be both. It's like saying you're eating beef fish.

I like how that's not even one of the proposed locations for the potential library to be located.

Why do they care so much about a RINO like him?

I'm sure a Democrat somewhere has said something stupid so that would counter the OP. Move on folks. Nothing to see here.

Of course, there is some distinction (IMO), between those that experience passing exhuberence or temporary diarrhea of idiocies, and those that seem to have the dimmer switch locked into its lowest setting all the time (regardless of party affiliation).

With apologies I don't understand your meaning.

Seems like pretty much the outrage Reagan deserves.

Funny how the right wing is against the free market sometimes, isn't it?

Just saying that there is a big difference between people who occassionally step beyond the line of reasonableness, and those who seem to live in the land of LaLa. And while there are resident aliens of all political persuasions, right now there only seems to be one major US party embracing and encouraging their inner looney-tune faction.
