New Rick Perry ad - He'll end Obama's war on religion

Okay, Rick buddy, where the hell did you get the idea that kids couldn't celebrate Christmas openly or pray in school.

I think you well know, that 'taken prayer out of school' isn't a complaint that students can't pray in school, but that there's no more mandatory prayer in class for all students.

I'm really REALLY hoping that Perry will make such a complete idiot of himself that Texans will rethink having him as a governor. I always new he was corrupt and slimy, but I never realize he was so abysmally stupid. I guess that's because the Governor of Texas doesn't have a lot of power.

I'm hoping the same thing. The fact that he soured as GOP flavor of the week so quickly is a good sign. Hopefully the next time around our fellow citizens will remember what sort of a knucklehead is not quite in charge of the state.

What's he trying to say with that leather jacket he wears in each damn advert?

He's concealing the guberntorial laser-sighted .380 Ruger.

Anyone who consorts with Dominionists and New Apostolic Fellowship types is entirely suspect.
Fortunately, polls show him sliding towards irrelevance.

It's a different world - I look at that and I start to think there may be some truth in the views of those Americans who think their politicians are uniquely incompetent.

I'm not sure that's entirely fair. Our politicians are only giving supporters what they want.

Let's face facts. Kids want to pray. It's easier than solving math problems, writing themes and doing homework, after all. But those evil teachers, tools of the state, step in and say NO, the students aren't allowed to pray. Many of them even assign MORE math problems to make prayer even more inconvenient!

Well, this notion, that "education" somehow has a higher priority in school than prayer and religion, has got to stop.

Prayer is educational. It teaches good morals; like believing that benvolent magic can solve your problems or that the most powerful being in the universe will do your bidding, if you just ask Him in the proper way.

But if you don't ask in the proper way, WATCH OUT! The Almighty doesn't like that, and if He choses to exercise His displeasure, He often chooses a dramatic expression such as a lightning strike or an earthquake or a tsunami. The way the Almighty does business, He expresses His anger to everyone, the innocent as well as the guilty.

Therefore, it is exceptionally important for the schools to teach WHICH deity to pray to, WHEN those prayers should be offered, HOW that deity should be addressed, and WHAT that deity wants or does not want or likes or does not like.

When we speak of putting religion back into school, we are of course speaking of putting the RIGHT religion back into school. Children must be taught that false religions are harmful. They are harmful to morals, to culture, to government, to society, to the believer of the false religion, and to others. It is government's job to protect the majority from the harms that would be caused by the minority. False religions do not need to be tolerated. Would you tolerate a child who falsely thought that 4 + 5 is ten instead of seven? Of course not.

There will be those who will bawl that, with all of the religious instruction and praying that will be going on in school, students will not have time to do any homework. Nonsense. Students will be able to do their homework during Sunday School.

I'm Rick Perry, and I improved this ad. What? I need to say WHAT? "Approved?" Oh. Okay, let me try it again. I'm Rick Perry, and I improved this approved.

To me it's a distinction without a difference.

Calling for mandatory prayer for all students is as stupid as saying kids can't pray in school.

Neither argument makes Perry look good to me.

There's really no excuse for this one. Who the hell thought this would be an effective campaign ad? This isn't just the least effective political ad ever made, this is pure political suicide. If he didn't want to run for president, he should have bowed out gracefully, not by doing this.

I disagree. A spectacular flame-out is much more entertaining.

I'm not sure if your post is targeted at me or Perry. I would say that if this is his point then he is equivocating (which is deception and he is a liar) or, he's too stupid to know the difference.

If the Christian kids pray the way that Jesus told them to, nobody will even notice it.

Perry wants a law that will encourage the Christian kids to do it wrong and annoy all the non-Christian kids.

Praying "to be seen of men" does no good for the soul of the Christian, nor does it glorify God among the unbelievers. If anything, it tends to convince the unbelievers that the believers are nuts. (Such was, apparently, the common position among those who heard the Disciples speaking in tongues on the Pentacost.)

I do suggest that Perry take a sabatical from public life, say twenty or thirty years, and read what is actually in that book that he has been thumping.

I think we found out what you could get away with in terms of intelligence in that office when Bush the Lesser was selected for President.

But one of these arguments also makes him very transparently dishonest, and by echoing the "we are a persecuted minority" bullflop will endear him with the fundies.

Someone on reddit suggested flagging the video on YouTube as promoting religious hate and hate against gays. I did my part. Perry's a douche.
