New England Skeptics Get Together!

You know tofu bacon does not look anything like real bacon. I do not know if the old MIdwest 7 layer salad is going to taste the same with tofu bacon! Well, we'll just have a few beers first. I went out and bought FRESH BEER, so I am not taking the stuff that has been in the fridge for the past 2 years. I wish I know a wino that would take a donation of stale old beer.

I bought NEW Harp lager and some Amstel light. Since I rarely drink, other people have to finish it up!

HEY!!!

Since we are doing a fire walk...who is bringing the stuff for SMorses??? We need candy bars, marshmallows and graham crackers! Someone bring Smore makings!

I would SO love to come, and Terpville (i.e. Maryland) isn't that far away, but.... I think I'll need at least another year to... well, to get the way cleared for such an event.

I hope you all have a great time, though!

You could listen to my Maryland accent and feel right at home...
and it's Marilyn....like the womans name....

I'M BRINGING A BUDDHIST!!!! A REAL LIVE BUDDHIST!!!!

(her mom tricked me into babysitting her....)

warning, she curses, but her mom's English isn't good enough to pick up on it. Yikes!

sorry guys, but at least if she converts you, you won't be a fundie!

She's also a vegetarian, so Rebecca can hang out with her and complain about the meat eaters.

Can someone bring a dowser? In case we need water with the firewalk....

Ah, so you've got the PG/AnneArrunnell/Charles/Calvert County flavor of the accent!!! I'd know that voice ANYWHERE!!! I grew up in PG, but I've been in Howard (pronounced like ha-a-a-a-rd) for about 15 years now, so my accent is fading towards a combination of the West Baltimore and Westminster accents.

Mrs. Maddog, though, is a total Harford Countian (until two years ago), so she's got kind of a cross-rural & White Marsh type accent going on....

Anyway, all y'all go and have a good time!!!

Tonight, I sit in a 4-star hotel room sated by a 3-star meal in the 5-star city of Seattle. Tomorrow, I board the Norwegian Star for a trip to the land of the North Star.

BUT..truth be told, I'd rather be seeing stars as I massage my toasted tootsies with the rest of you.

Well, almost...

Pictures pleeeeeeeeeeeez!

I'll show you mine if you show me yours.

Have fun and be safe. And don't tell Rebecca that beer often contains a fish extract.

I threw some dowsing rods in the car. Along with the bed of nails, some other equipment for that, some nice dry birch as my contribution to the firewalk...now, all I have to do is strap the Mercutiette to the roof rack, and we're off!

And a fine time was had by all. I have no damage from lying on the bed of nails (it did hurt a bit) and only a small blister from the firewalk (I have no arches to speak of and the center of my feet have no calluses).

It was great to see everyone, meet a few new skeptics, see 69dodge's '69 Dodge, enjoy good food and conversation, and pass a pleasant afternoon.

We had quite a showing of Junior Skepchicks (tm) too! I think at least four of them did both the bed of nails (2 with cement blocks busted on them!) and the firewalk! The Mercutiette also spent some quality time learning to throw knives, which should come in handy once she starts dating.

My neighbor, hearing the report, thinks the Mercutiette and I are both certifiably insane. She may be right.

It was a great time. Thanks to Rebecca for organizing it.

The N.E. Skeptics are a cool bunch of people. My dog Bo seems a little saddened that he is no longer smothered by loving caresses.

This will have to happen again.

Aynsley almost died....

TWICE!!!!

First Rebecca messes up with hitting the cement block with the hammer. You have to hit hard. If you don't hit hard enough to break the block you just push the person into the nails.

Larry has a very interesting description of it, going something like, "Yeah, her whole body just JUMPED!"

The crazy thing is we let Rebecca try again!

Aynsley now has a nice little blister on her foot, which she is milking for all the mileage she can!

However, I am so PROUD of her! She volunteerred for this stuff. What a good junior skeptic.

Though the best junior skeptic was little Kyle! He had to check under everyones shirt afterward to see if they were bleeding!

:D

I need to figure out how to post piccies of my daughter in pain!

Did I mention Hutch is a MUST at any party as HE GIVES OUT PRESENTS! Hutch, Kitten2 stole the perfume bottle you brought me....:(

Pool Boy has a camel t shirt, it's so cool! Kitten is going to be jelous!

69Dodge showed up with a REAL 69 Dodge! It was so cool to see it and meet the real 69Dodge! He also juggles. I want a lesson next get together. He can juggle with ONE HAND! One again skeptic Kyle was very impressed!

Kitten2 had a great time. Presents from Hutch! almost getting killed! And she thinks Kyle is "so cute and sweet!" It's too bad he isn't a little older! I hope he has a good time at pickle camp!

Larry was so sweet to put up with all this. Honestly, how many people would let you just throw knives into their barn? One note on the knife throwing. Merc's daughter was getting rather close to hitting dad a few times...:D

Bo was also very nice to let us invade his property. I hear he was flirting with the junior skepchicks though...

Ugh, too much whiskey. And beer. And more beer when I got home. I'm officially cranky, but I'll say that it was a good time, and thanks to everyone who came out. There were quite a lot of people -- I didn't do an exact head count, but if I were to take a guess at it I would say that there were at least 500 people. Maybe more. Okay, I guess there were 11 posters and another 12 friends and family members.

Merc brought his bed of nails, and gamely offered to demonstrate first:

I got to try to kill Kitten2. I came close, but she survived. This time.

Lil' repcon was skeptical about Merc's abilities:

We had a very special guest joining us from Australia. I think he's related to Kiles. His name is Mr. Crikey, The World's Greatest Koala Bear.

He also wanted to try the bed of nails, perhaps because he had so much booze.

We had a firewalk, too. Well, more of a firestep, but it was still fun. Mr. Crikey wanted to try it, so obviously we tied him to a stake and started a fire.

No one died, so I call it a success. We took a group photo, unfortunately we didn't think of it until after a bunch of people left. So . . . someone needs to Photoshop in repcon and Beady. Standing in the back, left to right: SkepticScott, Hutch, 69dodge, Paul Anagastopalologlopus, Mercutiette; sitting: Larry Barrieau, kittynh, me and Mr. Crikey, Boo, and Mercutio. Missing: a lot of family members who were tired of our weird, skeptical, Internet-friend ways.
