New Earl Grey?

Another concept which is strange to me -- do they all run on batteries?

No, its a bit of a misnomer, I think. They have bases that plug in to a wall outlet. The kettle sits on the corded base, but can be lifted off and carried with you - cordless!

You're all amateurs. Pg Tips? Pah!Everyone knows Yorkshire Tea is the best .

My heart sank when i read that they had reformulated their Earl Grey.
we make our own mix 1 1/2 teaspoons red label and 1 1/2 Earl grey...so it is earl grey flavoured but strong tea.
Unfortunately,i can only get Twinnings or supermarket own label (and that's awful)

In desperation at the ever increasing price of Earl Grey,I bought an oil mister and bergamot essential oil...the citrus one not the herb one.
We are yet to try spraying red label with the oil to see if we get the same effect.

Luckily, the local tea store sells a very lovely loose-leaf cream Earl Grey. Nummers.

Earl Grey tea is perfumed dishwater for sissies.

You said it LL! Earl Grey does taste like perfume.

THANK YOU, for heaven's sake. I tried the stuff twice in high school, and both times that's exactly the impression I got - drinking perfume. The only reason I tried it a second time is because I thought perhaps the first was just a bad batch. Actually, it wasn't; Earl Grey is just that awful.

No, it simply doesn't appeal to you. There is a difference.

I was at a tea-tasting event once. Earl Grey brought sighs of contentment from some and mutters of revulsion from others. The next tea we tried tasted like it had been boiled with old gym socks, and those who had hated Earl Grey sighed and said, "Ahh, that's much better."

De gustibus non est disputandum.

Well, "awful to me" is implied. There are lots of people in this thread who seem to actually like Earl Grey for reasons unfathomable.*

* ..by me, of course.

Ahhh. So, it really is a "new Coke" moment for Twinings.

Earl Grey Tea Is Back
After complaints from customers about its tampered-with new blend, which was rebranded as The Earl Grey and made with extra bergamot and lemon for a more citrussy taste, Twinings has said it’s bringing back the old blend.

Now its "Earl Grey Classic Edition"

Actually, while I like Earl Grey, my favorite is the Orange Spice blend from Bigelow. For the combination of the bitter from the black tea, the sweet from the Orange and the spice from the cinnamon are just right for my tastes

I like Bigelow more than Twinings because Bigelow's teas are stronger. I really like Bigelow's English Breakfast and the Orange Spice.

"Earl Grey? We don't do cocktails."

Actually, I can and do drink Earl Grey at times -- since it's available pretty much everywhere it's my usual fall-back when I can't have my druthers. Still, I prefer plain black teas without flavourings: keemun, Ceylon, Rize, Darjeeling, Assam.

And tea from a Keurig? You can't make decent tea with something that's also used to make coffee: you'll always end up with a cup where the trace moccha flavour overpowers the flavours of the tea.

Bigelow's Orange & Spice is herbal and contains no tea. You might be thinking of their Constant Comment (black tea with orange and clove), which is amazingly good.

I will double check, but I am fairly certain it was called Orange Spice (not Orange & Spice) and that when I checked the label it listed black tea as an ingredient.

ETA: I looked up the teas online, and you are correct, the Constant Comment matches the design I remember, not the Orange & Spice. I must have been confused because I learned about it from a restaurant that I like and they always refer to it as their Orange Spice tea.

The sad thing is that trying to get boiling water, which is necessary to brew The TEA is always a challenge in the USA. I've been to a number of colleagues homes and they just do not have a the most basic of equipment i.e. The Kettle! :jaw-dropp

I have a kettle, but still just microwave my water, before steeping my tea. Boiling water in about two minutes, versus watching a kettle get hot...
