New CT Cloak?

The Invisible tank and the cloak are different technologies. The cloak is a material that currently bends radio waves about an object. They believe that the princples can be used to create one that bends light. It would end up being little more then a wrap for an item since you can't see through it either way. Handy for hiding things parked near the battlefield, but not when they are involved in the battle.
From what I read the light bending cloak is a matter of when not if. Basically we don't have any of the ability to create the material. As for the cloak being useless in battle I really don't know. Right now the cloak only bends like in one dimension which means light can still enter the object Why a periscope couldn't be used is beyond me or how freaky it would look.

Who's going to be using their IR goggles in the middle of the day staring at an open field?

If you know that the enemy might have stuff concealed out there with that kind of tech, you'd be looking with IR (or similar), at least from time to time. Besides you might not have to be looking with IR all the time unless the capability of the tech allows for vehicles moving (both the vehicle itself plus the possible tracks it leaves behind and the dust it might stir or throw up).

The issue is that it bends the light around the cloak, the light doesn't pass through the cloak itself. It'd be like being in a cubical made of mirrors, dark. I have a feeling when it was discussed on the BAUT it was said that the cloak is a conical shape as well, which isn't much use for more than a cover. I guess you could use an opening to allow light inide the cloak, but that area would not be cloaked. It'll be interesting to watch, but I don't think we are going to have invisible cars or tanks rumbling down the street just yet.
