Why are the only options available not taking someone seriously or arresting them? Because from your own link, those aren't the only options. Nugent's comments were taken seriously: "The Secret Service is investigating Nugent for the remarks he made Saturday at the National Rifle Association convention in St. Louis". He probably shouldn't be arrested, but an investigation is entirely appropriate.

When someone threatens violence, we should take that seriously. It's likely that nothing will come from the NBP's threats (he's clearly too cowardly to take his own advice, and we can hope that his followers are too), but given the severity of what could happen if something did, we shouldn't simply ignore them either. Even short of any official investigation, that sort of language deserves forceful denunciation, just as Nugent's comments did.

I have no problems with this. All threats should be treated with the seriousness based on their credibility.

Loughner went on a rampage because he was clinically insane. He shot Gifford because she couldn't answer his nonsensical question about grammar to his satisfaction. Let that sink in: he shot her because of grammar. Does that make any sense? Of course it doesn't. Because he was bat-guano nuts.

Nothing about his shooting had anything to do with politics as sane people understand it, and no evidence that he ever listened to conservatives.

Wonder just why this obviously disturbed individual doesn't fall into the same catergory?

No. The obvious difference is that he's not a loner. Which means he's not insane. Truly insane people don't function in groups.

Characterizing their statements as "stupid" is a gross understatement. Among other things, they called for nurseries to be bombed so as to kill white babies. They're as heinous and vile as any hate group.

You do raise a good question though- I'm not sure what the point of the OP is as I doubt that the NBPP has any advocates here.

The point appears to be that since the NBP are on the left (very broadly speaking), those of us who are also on the left (more or less) need to acknowledge that "our" side is just as "uncivil" as we (or some of us) accuse the right of being. Which makes about as much sense as holding conservatives responsible for the "incivilities" of neo-nazis and the KKK.

Not sure what hornet's nest I might have started here, but I just honestly thought it was funny that these whackjobs made public statements using words that we couldn't repeat on this forum. Public statements = News Story.

But Palin did, portrayed inaccurately and purposefully, as a whackjob.

So the evidence here is what the elite liberals would like is:

A) the ability to determine who is a whackjob in accordance with their goals
B) the ability to make "news" of segments of supposed whackjobs which is beneficial to their goals

If you don't see the problem draw a 2x2 decision matrix and fill it in optimized to your supposed short term interest or goals.

Not really. Since liberals have a Justice Department with a history of refusing to prosecute NBP members, and a Justice Department which has stated it will not prosecute racial issues with white defendants.

The NBPP was also never a state governor or the nominee for VP for one of the two major political parties. So yeah, Palin's statements are going to get a wee bit more press attention.
