Neurosurgeon Ben Carson on the Big Bang

According to a recent (today) posting, Ben Carson, well known ******* and republicker, had something to say about his problem with the Big Bang: he says that he cannot/does not believe that big explosion could have happened because it obviously would have destroyed the Earth.
This is not med up, but, unfortunately it did not list a source. Worse, it is perfectly easy to believe.
 
A quick check shows a lot of his incompetent idiocy re: the topic, but none in a quick check posited that specifically.
 
and I thought the OP was about him guesting on the sit com.
 
He's a YEC who said this about the Big Bang:
You have all these highfalutin scientists, and they’re saying that there was this gigantic explosion and everything came into perfect order. Now, these are the same scientists who go around touting the second law of thermodynamics, which is entropy, which says that things move toward a state of disorganization. So, now you’re going to have this big explosion, and everything becomes perfectly organized. When you ask them about it, they say, “Well we can explain this based on probability theory, because if there’s enough big explosions, over a long enough period of time, billions and billions of years, one of them will be the perfect explosion”…. What you’re telling me is, if I blow a hurricane through a junkyard enough times, over billions and billions of years, eventually, after one of those hurricanes, there will be a 747 fully loaded and ready to fly.

Yep, the very same. The same guy who suggested the pyramids at Giza could have been built to store grain (presumably stored up against the seven lean years).

That's why he's a neurosurgeon and not an astrophysicist.

Many people confuse the name "big bang" and think it's about an explosion. Of course, in his case it's incredibly stupid, saying that the earth would've been destroyed by the creation of the universe.

What a tool.

I give up, why does anyone care what a neurosurgeon/so-called politician says about scientific theory? That's about as interesting as what Hawking has to say about God or what the Pope has to say about string theory. i.e. almost as interesting as watching paint dry.

For those of us who like science and study science it seems very odd that someone who supposedly knows the science of the brain and it's physio-chemcal needs and problems does not believe in the work of his equals or betters in other fields of science. It is, indeed, irrational and incompetent.
 
I like the way Dr. Ben Carson (and yes, "doctor" is his title) can take a complex subject and distill it down to simple terms so even the scientifically illiterate can misunderstand.

Because he and his ilk can be elected and decide policies. Whereas hawking talking about god will not make him elected pope.

No scientist would give a care of the world what the GOP in general think, if they were not deciding policies, and undermining 3-4 letters agencies (NASA, ETA, FCC, FDA) with their anti science stance.
