Merged Neural Implant / Musk & Zuckerberg - we can trust them, right?

Your blind, evidence-free denial is noted.... and dismissed.

I could say the same about Hero Worship /Cult of Personalities.
Musk is like his hero Tesla...Brilliant idea one day, Batcrap crazy idea the nest.

You seem to be mistaking what the claim is here.

The Claim: That Musk is in no way involved in any of the engineering side of his companies.

Evidence provided to support the claim: None

Evidence provided to refute the claim: Quotes, first hand, from some those who have worked for him, past and present, who say that he is in fact very much involved in the engineering side of his companies.

Claim debunked!

That is how claims and evidence work. In order to reinstate the claim, you need to provide two things:

1. Evidence that the original claim is valid
2. Rebuttal of the evidence that refutes the claim - you have to provide evidence that the quoted people are lying, wrong or mistaken. You personal incredulity is not evidence of anything, at least, not of anything related to the claim.

Good luck with that!

As said, I rejected that claim. Way ahead of you.

Nope, you did no such thing. You hand-waved away evidence refuting the claim by calling people liars.

True, but irrelevant. It has nothing to do with the claim.

I don't do Hero Worship, I just provide evidence.

Then let me clarify

I reject this claim, "That Musk is in no way involved in any of the engineering side of his companies."

Hopefully now that this is the third time I have rejected that claim you can stop saying I didn't.

Neuralink: Elon Musk unveils pig with chip in its brain

So Elon Musk wants to implant a chip in your brain?

Seriously though, it sounds like maybe someday it might lead to something interesting.

Of course this has also been a topic in science fiction going back to at least Philip K. Dick.

Will someone agree to be the first human guinea pig? Because research on pigs and other animals may be of limited usefulness.

Will we someday be able to have all of the functions of a smartphone (both good and bad) in a brain implant?

Maybe it will allow people to be punished for having "illicit thoughts" :covereyes

The ultimate tool of Big Brother? Or conversely, an "upgrade" to humanity? I know there are some people who can't wait for the cyborg future to arrive.

Right now I can't imagine to ever consenting to having a computer implanted in my brain, but who knows? Maybe someday when I'm older and suffering from senile dementia if it ever becomes a viable treatment for such a condition? But I think that's still a long way off.

Of course. Such people already exist (to treat illnesses). I expect that will be the first use of this technology as well, if it works.

The pigs were a proof of concept, to show that it's safe (pigs are still healthy) and effective (they are able to get data from the brain to the device.

How long before they go in to human trials I don't know, but I don't expect it to be too long.

What sort of functionality will be possible is another question, though.

They've been saying in the video that Neuralink technology will be able to be used to manage:

Anxiety
Depression
Paralysis
Addiction
Pain
Seizures
Strokes
Brain Damage
Insomnia
Hearing Loss
Blindness
Memory Loss

That all seems to be into the future. I haven't seen much about what they can do NOW.

But the technology, as described by the neuroscientists, medical robotics experts etc sounds amazing.

e.g. The wires attached to the implant chip are 5 microns, but Elon Musk said they'll go sub-micron.

There was a cool clip showing the electrodes firing, and the neurons reacting.

So, does Musk pair up with Gates and then put the chips into the covid inocculations? :D

Yeah, I think the first step really is just getting a functional, safe, implant working, then they will start to see what they can do with it.

Yeah, all of those sound very cool but also very much yet to be proven.

I'm sure that it will also act as a tracking device as a very basic function. But if you own a smartphone you already have a tracking device.

I actually think that the robotic surgery part may end up being as important as the brain implant part.

Maybe someday there will be neural technology that allows me to download the verbal content of a 75-minute-long presentation directly into my brain in just a few minutes, without waiting for montages of out of context high tech gear, advertisements, or slow repetitive speakers reluctant to get to the point.

Why would you expect it to do anything right now?
