.Net framework

About two months ago we had a power surge & bang went my computer.
I took it to C.C.T computers near me (they are supposed to be a reliable company)
They replace the power supply & the motherboard (they installed an asrock P4i65G motherboard)
They informed me that the hardware has a 3 month warranty but there is no guarantee on the hardware because of all the viruses going around.
I then had to reinstall most of my programs.
When I checked in my add & remove programs I noticed .net framework &
KB928366 wasn’t installed properly. (The space where you see the size is blank)
Following Microsoft instructions from the help & support, I removed .net framework 3 then .net framework 2 then .net framework 1.1 & all their updates
& then tried to install .net framework 1.1 but it stilled showed nil in add &
Remove programs.
I then searched Google & found a cleaning tool to clean .net framework.

It removed all the .net framework files & I was able to install .net framework 1.1.
As soon as I try to download the up date .net framework 1.1 sp1 (KB928366)
it tries to down load it on top of .net framework 1.1.
The only prompt I get is do you want to install on top of .net framework 1.1.
I created a new folder in windows/ microsoft.Net/ Framework but can't seem
To download it in that folder
I have run disk cleanup & have defragged my computer but it still doesn’t work
Then I scanned my computer with AVG that still didn’t work.
I removed AVG & downloaded window defender, same problem.
I then ran my uni blue power suite (registry cleaner three times, speed up my computer x2 & Spy eraser)
Now my Extreme graphics driver, C–Media audio driver & .net framework all have file missing & I can’t seem to repair them.
I am using windows XP home & office 2003 professional.
I have now taken my uni blue power suite & thrown it as far as possible, gone gray & pulled out all of my hair.
Is there anyone that can help me?

At this point, I think your best bet is to reformat and reinstall Windows XP from scratch.. You have the original CDs, right?

Many times when you do a major hardware upgrade, such as a motherboard, it requires a reinstall. I can't say why the .NET Framework install was messed up, but it looks like you've gone too far to fix it at this point.

BTW, did they really say that there's only a 3 month warranty on hardware due to viruses? Most manufacturers have to give 1 year, minimum, and viruses have nothing to do with your hardware.
 
My mistake I'm thinking faster than I write again.
The hardware has a three month warranty.
The software has no guarantee due to the amount of viruses floating around the internet.
I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to re install it but it looks like I’m going to have to.
I might as well do a proper job.
Is there a software program that I can use to clean my computer properly after I have uninstalled everything i.e. I don’t want any empty shells of files left on my computer before I reinstall windows?
 
If you MUST start over:
Back up whatever data you need to keep (if any) is on the HD, then format it, and install everything from scratch. No shells of anything will remain on it.

But, just because the spot where it says how much space the program is taking up is blank, does NOT necessarily mean it was not installed correctly. That only means that the set up program did not choose to inform the Installer service of where to check the program's size. Sometimes, it is intentionally left blank, such as if a component's set up places files in lots of locations, or if the total size of the install is trivial.

The part that was messing my brain around was that when I reinstalled .Netframework 1.1 it showed Size 35.9kb, but when I installed the update it went blank.
When I uninstalled & reinstalled it, both .Net framework & the update it shows nothing again. & windows keeps giving me the update KB928366 to install so I suspect that there is either a bug in my computer or the update.
I also posted the question on the Microsoft news group but I'm not getting an answer from them.

Just use the format option when you reinstall windows. Remember all the files will be gone, so back up anything you want to keep.
 
Ok I formatted my hard drive & re installed windows & all my drivers.
According to my device manager all my drivers are installed properly, but
I done scan with version tracker & according to them not all my drivers are installed properly.

No, format wipes everything. If device manager is happy, then the drivers will usually be ok, you may just want to download updates if you experience any problems. If you are using a video card for games, it's usually a good idea to download the latest drivers for it.
