House takes up amendment to "protect the pledge" from legal challenges based on the "under God" clause in the pledge.

Fortunately, they've pretty well wrapped-up any oversight responsibilities they may have for running the govenment and the world is a pretty quiet place just now, so they've time to consider important issues like this and the move to constitutionally ban gay marriage.

Did you ever get around to reading Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism? The author (Michelle Goldberg) cites an obscure theocrat "intellectual" who thought up this very piece of legislation to purposefully cause a constitutional crisis with the goal of destroying the independence and authority of the courts as a check on the legislature. I’ll try to find the page.
