Merged Neom / The Line - genius, crazy, delusion, dystopia?

Wasn't this the same plot of "Escape 2000"? aka "Bronx Warriors 2", aka "Escape from the Bronx"? Except instead of evicting (killing) people in Italy, I mean the Bronx, it's desert villages?

Henry Silva passed away two years ago, so at least they're safe from him.

It's worth any price to build the world's largest 2.2µF capacitor.

Both those cities have worked at least as well as any unplanned city.

Likewise Brasilia, Kyoto, Sapporo, Gaborone, Abuja, New Delhi, Frederica, Esbjerg, Helsinki, Bremerhaven, Oslo, Kristiansand, Odesa, and - allegedly - Edinburgh New Town.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Planned cities abound in all historical periods. A great many of them seem to have been successful at the time, or are still successful today, or both.

This particular planned city would fail not because planned cities don't succeed (they manifestly do), but because this is a bad plan.

Its a brilliant cocnept if you just think of it as a money laundering scheme. Or a series of money laundering schemes.

Has a "made to order" city ever actually worked?

Plenty of times. But that's because it was a city people wanted or needed, this is neither.

of course, Saudi Arabia could spend a tiny, imperceptible fraction of the money for this project into making life liveable in Gaza (once the Israeli have worked out their aggression on defenceless houses, mosques, hospitals, refugee camps, small children etc.).

But who reads anything I write. I am on ignore by most people.
Ah, that explains it. I ignore the ignore function and just don't notice anything, so if I didn't notice your post and everyone else ignored it and didn't respond, not much will happen. Fortunately, not much is going to happen very fast in Neom either, it seems, so we'll have years in which the update will be approximately as productive as asking if Franco is still dead. Anyway, an interesting video which I might have missed because I may have been in Spain or someplace, anyway more interesting than the Saudi Desert.
