Neil DeGrasse Tyson on Bill Maher

Man, that was tough.... but here it is .... and in FULL SCREEN High Quality!!! :)

(Well uh.... after having watched it I have to say it is only an excerpt and Tyson is one of the people who does the least talking in this video)
I found that excerpt earlier as well. I suppose HBO doesn't want people to have free access.

No, he would just have them both agreeing that they thought he was a presumptive a*****e.

Which he is.

He just also happens to be right most of the time.

But they'll be agreeing on something. Baby steps...

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, why do you say he's a presumptive a*****e?

I just realized I might have misunderstood. Wasn't talking about Tyson, who is a real friendly guy. Met him at TAM and we had a nice chat when we bumped into each other away from the events.

For some reason I thought you were talking about Maher. Now I have no idea why.

That's funny. I was wondering why you had such a negative impression of Neil DeGrasse Tyson. :D

I am sad to hear that so many states seem to be facing these kind of budget cuts. Though there are a ton of systemic problems in elementary education.

I have been working as a 5th grade teacher for the last 2 years in Irving (a suburb of Dallas) and what I have seen is really disillusioning.

Not for most of last week you weren't. :D

I have yet to watch or read anything of Tyson's stuff personally, mostly I've seen his name mentioned here and there on forums et al. So, he seems to be a reknowned astronomer (he's an astronomer yes?). Bill Maher I've watched a bit, he can be funny but he's usually only able to be witty through sarcastic oneliners, and that gets old after a few minutes of repetition.
He's an astrophysicist and the current director of the Hayden Planetarium.

That's his job. His contribution to society is as a popularizer of science, especially in astronomy and astrophysics.

Whew! I was wondering if there was a dark side to Tyson that I hadn't seen before.

I never do that. :o (I never lie either.)

I'm really enjoying his Nova Science Now series.

Seems to me he's taking on the role that Carl Sagan (peace be upon him) had in my day, and Richard Feynman had before him. And Benjamin Franklin during the 18th century.

We need these guys, and they're a rare breed.
