Why would they want to leave? It's a "sanctuary". We're only getting like 75,000 or so illegals a month. No crisis, no emergency is what I hear. Should be a cakewalk.

No crisis because you are a huge country with masses of room. a booming economy apparently and the best people. You should be able to have a scheme which copes with asylum seekers (recognised as such by national and international law) properly at the border. To deal with illegal immigration you should really be dealing with ports of entry and legal visitors who overstay their visas but it seems your President is too stupid to know that. Who would have thought it?
 
Dividing the country into us and them is working for him. He wants his base to fear those liberals over there in that different country.

Remember that, in his mind and those of his followers, refuge seekers and "illegal immigrants" are rapist murderous subhumans who everyone is naturally terrified by. Thus, he is actively proposing to inflict harm on "those snotty urban folks" by setting this horde on them.

Now, in reality, these cities and states are quite used to having immigrants around, aren't at all frightened by them, and likely would barely even notice them. In fact, the entire point of "sanctuary cities" is that we'd rather have immigrants report crime, because we're worried about actual violence rather than their imaginary ravenous swarthy horde. So, since the federal government is unable to control the influx of refugees, we don't threaten to call ICE on them when they report crimes, we allow them to get driving licenses so they aren't crashing into people, and so forth.

But by sending them to distant cities, he'd be helping them avoid the immigration courts because they'd never keep decent records of who they send where, waste a lot of money sending them into various cities, and as greg noted, they'd be able to leave to go where they chose anyway. The entire scheme appeals to the vindictiveness and white supremacism of him and his followers, although it was clearly created by his white nationalist adviser Stephen Miller.

Another Fake Story on @NBCNews that I offered Pardons to Homeland Securiy personnel in case they broke the law regarding illegal immigration and sanctuary cities. Of course this is not true. Mainstream Media is corrupt and getting worse, if that is possible, every day!

If the Radical Left Democrats all of a sudden don’t want the Illegal Migrants in their Sanctuary Cities (no more open arms), why should others be expected to take them into their communities? Go home and come into our Country legally and through a system of Merit!

In New York State, Democrats blocked a Bill expanding College Tuition for Gold Star families after approving aid for illegal immigrants. No wonder so many people are leaving N.Y. Very Sad!

I never offered Pardons to Homeland Security Officials, never ordered anyone to close our Southern Border (although I have the absolute right to do so, and may if Mexico does not apprehend the illegals coming to our Border), and am not “frustrated.” It is all Fake & Corrupt News!

So interesting to see the Mayor of Oakland and other Sanctuary Cities NOT WANT our currently “detained immigrants” after release due to the ridiculous court ordered 20 day rule. If they don’t want to serve our Nation by taking care of them, why should other cities & towns?

Democrats must change the Immigration Laws FAST. If not, Sanctuary Cities must immediately ACT to take care of the Illegal Immigrants - and this includes Gang Members, Drug Dealers, Human Traffickers, and Criminals of all shapes, sizes and kinds. CHANGE THE LAWS NOW!

I think what they have said is, "We don't want the effectiveness of our local police forces to be crippled by being used as proxies for ICE.".

Which isn't even close to the same thing.

"Sanctuary city" is another of those cutesy Republican distortions of the facts, intended to try and aim public perception toward their hate and fear campaign, and away from the shambles of their policies which continually cause more harm than good.

No issue, so long as the federal government pays for any added expenditures. Again, this isn't so much about how much any city is "open", so much as it is about ensuring that they're able to report actual dangerous crimes without risking deportation. Having said that, there are absolutely private groups that help refugees and the like out regardless of whether or not the city/county/state is a "sanctuary" area.

THe disgusting part, again, is that Cheeto Benito is attempting to weaponize refugees.

Then why are you only looking at or concerned with half of the effect?

The other half is people who are afraid to call the police leaving them exposed to abuse and worse. All that a sanctuary city means is local police are segregated from ICE. And that's a good thing, not a bad thing.

A sanctuary city does not mean ICE is banned from entering or acting within the borders.
