NASA Wants Permanent Manned Lunar Outposts

The long-awaited proposal envisions initial stays of a week by four-person crews, followed by gradually longer visits until power and other supplies are in place to make a permanent presence possible by 2024.

Permanent presence in 2024? As in conference space? TAM XXIII anyone?
 
But seriously, this is the awesomest thing and has made my day. I am so happy that permenant space stations on other worlds will be happening in my lifetime. 2024.

Well according to Kurzweil you'll be pretty much immortal by then. Maybe they should make space plans factoring in the exponential growth of technology.:p

Moon base By 2012? Mars base by 2015? Titan and Europa bases by 2016? Ringworld by 2030?
 
This news report says something different. It will be built near one of the poles The BBC

The base is likely to be built on one of the Moon's poles and will serve as a science centre and possible stepping stone for manned missions to Mars.
