Is it me, or from the photo, do they not look particularly different than any regular "red" lobsters?

They look like lobsters to me.

Of course the really important thing is how they taste. Mmmm mhhhhmmm.

I don't think lobsters are usually red until they are cooked. They are sort of dark brown usually when alive.
 
Red, orange, or brown, they all just look like bugs to me. blech!

I guess that's true.

I live in the midwest now, so live lobsters are not a common sight.

Yes, now that you mention it, I can see a noticeable difference between these "orange" lobsters and what I think of as a lobster crawling along on the ground....
 
These orange lobsters are a new varitey of Homarus americanus.

They have been genetically engineered to produce a thick coating of butter surrounding their tail meat.

Depending of the type of lobster... some tropical lobsters are all sorts of pretty colors. I know the one in our local aquarium has lovely stripes/spots, I found a picture of one type here:

But they ALL boil up to a nice red color. yummy!
 
I guess it's too much to hope for that this is some species of pre-cooked lobster.

In fact, they are alien larvae that will hatch in cluthlu and destroy the world!!!
