My Occupy Wall Street Protest Speech, in Dallas

So I can't make it all the way to NY, but luckily there's a protest in both Dallas and Ft. Worth.

I've been watching the live streaming video (http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution), and it looks like a lot of fun, at least for an afternoon.

I contacted the ground crew in Dallas, and asked what one needed to do to give a speech. Moreover, I asked what I could bring, what was needed, and what was in surplus. The guy was very helpful, and noted that "food" was the only thing in short supply.

In any case, as you may or may not know, I'm a blogger. Or, at least I used to be. I haven't posted anything lately as I am looking for a publisher for my blook.

Here's the speech: (http://betterliberalarguments.blogspot.com/2010/10/call-to-action.html).

P.S. I am not back. I just thought these these protests were more important than my grudge against JREF.

You actually made a demand, you called on people to vote. Guess what, the Occupy Wherever people don't want you anymore. You broke the rules, you are only supposed to be angry and have a sign. This movement does not allow an agenda, goals or specifics. Nice try though, I agree with a lot of what you said.

Sounds interesting! I hope you'll return to post some details about how your speech went and to share your impressions of the Occupy Dallas event (and of the Occupy movement in general).

If you don't feel like posting details here, perhaps you might consider posting them at Daily Kos?

Wherever you choose to post them, I hope you do post an account of what you see and hear. We have plenty of third-hand information available in the various OWS threads here, but first-hand accounts are in somewhat shorter supply.

Can you please show me this list of rules that can be broken? Otherwise I'll be forced to assume that you're projecting your own agenda. Poorly.

We are a Community, and when We act together there is nothing We can’t achieve. It is only when We act as individuals, that We separate ourselves from the communal goods and services that We’ve already paid for through taxes.
Comment: It is only when we act as individuals that we retain our freedom from the Mob and their thirst for "Communal Goods and Services" largely paid for with other people's money. You can choose Socialism or Freedom, but you can't have both.

Platitude. Of course, "socialism" is used by conservatives pejoratively and I tried in vain to get those on the right to define the word and they always refuse. Hopefully you will do that. Do you mean that dictionary definition or is your definition inclusive of social programs like the military and public school? What is it you mean by "socialism" and why can't you have freedom and socialism? Are you thinking of Stalinism?

I'm not a KOA fan and I'm not here to defend him but this black and white fallacy of the right is so tired. It's just an epithet to be trotted out and used without any consideration as to the meaning of the word or the intended meaning one wishes to convey. It's simply "socialism is bad and scary and will take away your freedom".

I suspect

Philanthropist (n.) - Someone who spends his own money to advance his version of Utopia.
Socialist (n.) - Someone who spends your money to advance his version of Utopia.

is the usual intent for "socialist'.

I'm, not sure if that helps. By that definition I think the vast majority of those of us who like our public roads, schools, bridges, damns, police, fire, military are de facto socialists (depending on whatever is meant by the weasel word "utopia"). But then I suspect your post was actually snarky and not really meant to advance the discussion, right?

I only got this far - "We the People are not presently well represented by our elected officials".

Apparently the voters think otherwise.

From: Webster:

": any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods"

...like Obamcare, Bank Bailouts, Student Loans, Obama Motors, Socialized Mortgages (Freddie and Fanny) Federal Reserve Counterfeiting, Dept.of Education mandates, Lemon Socialism or (loan guarantees to failed Green Industries,) "Progressive" taxation, Government handouts to Agribusiness, Food Stamps, and other welfare schemes, etc., etc., etc. Ad infinitum.

Prove that people are not having buyers remorse over the crop of useless fools and grafters they elected in 2010.

DO NOT FORGET to factor in Wisonsin.
