My Muslim Faith?

And what exactly would be wrong with him being a Muslim?

Other than the fact that it is another silly belief system.

I see Palin's fundy beliefs as potentially dangerous to American civil liberties.

Fundy is Fundy! whether the fun is Xtian or Muhamedian is irrelevant.

I think it's pretty clear in the context of the interview that Obama meant to say "my Muslim faith" in the sense of "my alleged Muslim faith, according to these silly rumours." So I don't think it was a slip at all; he simply said something that could be taken out of context.

Eh, I think that grammatically it's similar to "have you stopped beating your wife?" That is, the rules of grammar imply that his Muslim faith is an actual thing and not a hypothetical, just as in "have you stopped beating your wife" the wife-beating is treated as actual rather than hypothetical. Although this is probably an area of linguistics where the lines between literal meaning and contextual meaning blur a whole lot.

I took it in the context of McCain's not having brought up the lie. The subject of religion rarely comes up in any other context. Nor should it. We Dems don't reall give a rat's what faith he follows (if any) as long as he is not drafting legislation based on the Qur'an.

We don't even give a rat's about McCain's faith, unless we catch him missusing the Bible to support tax cuts for the rich.

We only care about Caribou Barbie's faith because she obviously wants to mix it with her public acts.

I wonder why George corrected him? He should have let it go.

No, I think it was a very good idea for George to make the correction. When you are interviewing someone, one of the goals is to make sure the interviewee's responses are understood by your audience; hence if a technical term comes up you will always see the interviewer ask for a moment so they can spell out exactly what is meant. If they make a simple mistake they should be corrected or at least asked to clarify.

George didn't ask him to clarify, he re-answered for him, there's a difference.

And of course, in the silly season of politics, anything that can be taken out of context, will be.

Ditto x 3. He was complimenting McCain for not suggesting he was Muslim.

A few times when i was unable to listen to the local progressive radio station because of some sports pre-emption, i have heard right-wing whackops on the radio making veilled referrences to it, and a lot of callers to right-wing radio bring up the e-mail, and i have yet to hear one of those swine refute it or dismiss it.

Okay, as a card-carrying right-wing whackop, I hereby refute, dismiss, deny, gainsay, controvert, and otherwise claim as false any allegation that Barack Obama is, or ever was, a Muslim.

I has proofs, too. For twenty years, he was a faithful member of a Christian church (until his preacher's denunciations of AmeriKKKa got too embarrassing for the candidate). You can't be a Christian and a Muslim at the same time.

Happy?

One local right-wing radio host in my city played the clip and described as a simple mistake. Every time he replayed that one line taken out of context, he described it as a simple mistake.

Not yet, but I know what you can do about that. :D
