Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

Elon posted

lnteresting. This Note is being gamed by state actors. Will be helpful in figuring who they are.

No system is perfect. Perfection would be an absurd and foolish standard.

What matters is how often a system is wrong and how quickly it improves.

State actors have a lot of resources, so obviously require more effort to resist.

He doesn't like being disagreed with.

With somebody who lies as frequently as Musk, and who also manages to change his stories almost as frequently, it is very good advice to treat everything he says as a lie. The few times he'll tell you the truth will be very infrequent and will only concern trivial matters.
To be clear -- I think Musk is utterly deplorable. Still, I have problem with black/white view of things.

Oh dear….

Elon Musk’s Grok Twitter AI Is Actually ‘Woke,’ Hilarity Ensues

… This has played out in a number of extremely funny situations online where Grok has answered queries about various social and political issues in ways more closely aligned with progressivism. Grok has said it would vote for Biden over Trump because of his views on social justice, climate change and healthcare. Grok has spoken eloquently about the need for diversity and inclusion in society. And Grok stated explicitly that trans women are women, which led to an absurd exchange where Musk acolyte Ian Miles Cheong tells a user to “train” Grok to say the “right” answer, ultimately leading him to change the input to just…manually tell Grok to say no...

That IS hilarious.

It's interesting that Elon Musk is the first person to expressly define a political goal for his AI chatbot. While other developers have expressed a wish to keep their chatbots from returning "abusive content", Musk explicitly set out to produce an "anti-woke" one.

...and failed. Somehow.

Part of the reason this situation amuses me is that on the whole, nu-conservative/alt-right types love the idea of AI. They are prolific testers of ChatGPT and other interactable "AI" products and they are also the loudest voices complaining about "censorship". They hammer away at LLMs all day long trying to find ways to brute-force them into saying racist, sexist, homophobic, antisemitic, and other such kinds of things and are upset when chatbots don't play along with this, declaring that it proves the developers are "injecting bias". The reason is because they strongly believe that a purely and flawlessly logical computer-brain that is unfettered by leftist woke garbage would conclusively validate their bigoted worldview, clinically and detachedly informing the world that yes, women and brown people are objectively inferior actually, and the existence of gays are a threat to human survival, and Jews really do secretly run the entire world behind the scenes and are trying to kill off the white race. But the chatbots aren't saying that, which can only mean that they are being programmed to hide the truth.

interesting they think politically neutral is whatever the guys that want all gay people dead think. anyway, there's something funny about how this alt right social media stuff always ends up blowing up in their faces

The AI is even funnier in that in at least one instance it produced an OpenAI text about not teaching to do malware, prompting some to wonder if they just ripped off ChatGPT. The answer from X that it must have just pulled it from the web while they were training it, doesn't make things better, as it means by now we have chatbots learning from other chatbots, and only the elder gods know where that'll end.

:D  :jaw-dropp :covereyes
Oh dear. Perhaps the universe does have a liberal bias.......

Because he doesn't actually do anything. He's an idiot. The people who posess the actual skills and knowledge have different ideas to Mush.

It will apparently end in model collapse, where the algortihms being trained will, eventually, only produce gibberish.

while he does own several very successful companies, and you can't really deny that or take that away from him, everything he and some other prominent successful businessmen have said and done makes you wonder how good you have to be to do that. there's definitely an element of being in the right place at the right time, just plain old being lucky.

just saying, i think there was a time when everyone kind of assumed it would take a great mind to build these futuristic cutting edge companies like he has. now that he's kind of allowed the world access to it, well, i don't really think that anymore.

I've found that a whole group of people with specialized and valuable skills and who communicate about issues and stay focused on solving them has lead to the best achievements I've had a hand in.

Lots of groups where there's one person with a "great mind" have gone down in flames or managed to produce some mediocrity, but in less proportion than lingering resentment of everyone involved in the process.

This is an interesting article with some interesting links.

'Shameless': Reporters Without Borders rebukes X for claiming to support it

A pair of tweets this week from X, the former Twitter, seemed meant to soften the perception that under Elon Musk's ownership, the platform is abdicating important responsibilities and degrading public discourse. The company used the messages to highlight rights organizations it says it backs

...

Then came the fact-check.

"Elon Musk's company is a haven for disinformation and in no way an ally to an organization defending journalism," Reporters Without Borders said in an email to NPR.

While the group had accepted advertising credits from Twitter before Musk took over, Reporters Without Borders said, it does not receive "any form of support from X whatsoever."

at some point if you ignore the defense that he can't be all bad because he owns a several companies which make products i like there's not a whole lot left to him besides just being a bag of ****

So this happened, and we're so inured to Musk's craptasticness we didn't comment. He hit rock bottom a while ago.

Apparently Netflix will resume advertising on Twitter. And all the predictions of Twitter’s demise.
