Cont: Musk buys Twitter II

Seconded.

Eta: they also use weasel words, "simply", "fundamentally", and they are also stupid statements.
This is a left wing message board, exactly the reason Musk is so important. He is a foil to the knee jerk lefties here who automatically regard Trump as an omnibad actor.

It is remarkable that a past and future POTUS could be even momentarily dislocated from a discussion forum.

I think we public intellectuals are all captured by a notion we can distill wisdom to a granular format.

Do you public intellectuals have anything sensible to say about why Musk simultaneously thinks Twitter was run both by the government and the “far left”?

We public intellectuals.
Our club.

It was... "a state publication completely controlled by the far left"?

Does Musk not even care about the meaning of words? I suppose he doesn't need to because he has minions and sychophants who will parrot this meaningless gibberish as the word of God.
I have a friend at Bletchley, his ignorant posturing there is oh-so typical of his arrogant nonsense.

You really have no connection to reality, do you?

Dry English humour, there are countless ex lefties driven crazy by DEI and former adults lying with a straight face. I am one of them. I checked and Joni Mitchell returned to Spotify, one of the Joe Rogan controversies. Musk's body of work is far from ordinary, it seems a bit ridiculous to dismiss him. X has allowed the return of the TERF, who are just people cursed with common sense.

on the other hand, joe rogan and elon musk are dumbasses and huge liars. if you take everything they say as a serious and truthful statement, some of that is going to rub off on you

to be fair to Musk, it would be virtually impossible not to be a dumbass at this point, given what a unique, sheltered existence he lives, getting courted by top politicians and CEOs, flattered by hordes of fanboys and told by his posse that everything is possible, including doing outright illegal things.
How would you know that torturing small animals is wrong if everyone always told you how well you are doing it?

you're right, and it's a pretty remarkable thing. a good example is this very podcast.
there's a section in it where they talk about the zuckerberg fight, and keep in mind joe rogan, who is obscenely rich himself by the way, is an expert in martial arts and has been heavily involved in fight promotion for well over a decade. and oh my god, does elon lie his ass off about that right to his face about something he knows better on, and joe rogan just sits there and nods. too afraid (or more likely terms of him being a guest) to call him out on his own show.

but the same thing happens to joe all the time too. he records it happening all the time when he has guests on

The subject requires us to prove:
1. The world was better with Jack Dorsey as social influencer.
2. The world is better with Elon Musk as social influencer.

no.

Jack Dorsey did not use Twitter for social influencing, and Musk did so before he owned it.

There was ample opportunity to elaborate and make it less "granular". Do you care to do so now?

what? we don't get to choose that. jack dorsey isn't involved in twitter and never will be again, musk bought it and now he is. this whole thread is just observations and commentary on it as it happens, it's not going to prove or disprove anything.

samson, i know you have some pet issues particularly with the trans stuff, and i don't want to try and solve them for you, but i can promise you that elon musk and people like him don't have the answers

My understanding is that Jack Dorsey's Twitter was heavily supportive of trans ideology, eg Petersons ban for saying a surgeon should be jailed, and the repeated bannings (seems to have a different meaning to here)
of people like Posie Parker who are taken very seriously by a rapidly growing cohort of so called public intellectuals. I would suggest this is such a monster of a single issue that alone it confers importance to Musk's rescue of the platform.

i would suggest that despite musks demonstrably deep misunderstanding of what social media is, twitter isn't a free speech platform and no important or consequential discussions are happening on it, it's more like the mall.

musk is in good company with jordan peterson though, another dumbass liar who doesn't have any answers.

I think you need to give us your definition of "rescue". It makes no sense to use that word in the context of that sentence, unless by it you mean "drive away customers, fire most of the staff, piss off the users, destroy brand recognition, saddle the company with debt it can't pay and stop paying the bills".

He destroyed the platform to save the platform!

nothing funded by advertising money is a free speech platform. not compatible
