Merged Musk buys Twitter!/ Elon Musk puts Twitter deal on hold....

I know I have said this before, but I have never seen anybody destroy his reputation as quickly as Musk has. From Time Man Of The Year to a laughing stock in a little over a year. That is some impressive fall.

Was going to counter with Rudy Giuliani, but that took.him a little longer I think.

I can't stand Musk, but honestly think whatever he is after with the Twitter fiasco, it isn't money. It's costing him a fortune. I think it is pure ego.

This. He does things with Twitter with no concern for the consequences, it's all ego-driven.

i think it was always going to be that way. he's pretty recklessly over promised and under delivered in all of his projects.

anyway, in case you're wondering how all consuming social media can be, look what it did to elon musk

He does that with all his companies. Eliminating radar from his "full self-driving" Teslas, eliminating flame diverters on Starship, overriding his engineers in both cases.

He may not be the world's richest man anymore, but he might be the world's luckiest internet brain-poisoned idiot.

Twitter is developing a bit of a nazi problem. Or, more accurately, a new evolution of an old nazi problem, and Elon is trying to cover it up in a way that would bring a tear to Barbara Streisand's eye.

Subscribing to Twitter Blue will make your replies to a post more favorable to the algorithm, so your response surfaces closer to the top than it would otherwise, earning it more views. People who purchase Blue tend to not be very nice. This can cause a real problem when someone calls for genocide.

Former mixed martial artist Jake Shields recently tweeted a call for public executions against anyone who assists in a child's gender transition. He even made a point to use the impersonal "solution" verbage. You can see a screen grab of his tweets below.

Notice that I posted a screen grab of Right Wing Cope (an aggregator of conservatives down bad), rather than pointing to their original tweet. The reason why is that something funny will happen if I do that. Go ahead and take a look for yourself.

That's the tweet, but... where's the image? Twitter is censoring it. I only have the original because it showed up on my feed before the deletion and the thumbnail is cached. If I refresh, it will vanish.

And it's not a fluke. Here is Alajandra Caraballo, one of the first to report on Jake's tweet, showing the original in image form. The image is gone. Other users have cached versions of the images that they can share, and it really highlights the problem I hinted at in the opening. The worst people you can imagine are paying $8/month to have their views bubble up to the surface. This is meant to be Elon's big change, and neo-nazis are wearing that blue check like a badge of honor.

In short, this is your daily reminder that self-proclaimed "champions of free speech" are often the most dishonest people on the planet.

There has been massive negative feedback on blue tick holders, this appears to have been one of the motivations behind the freebies.

I saw this on Facebook this morning so I don't have a link, but posts mocking blue tick holders are everywhere. Apparently someone who paid for his blue check was accusing musician Steve Albini of paying for likes and followers because there's no way someone without a blue check could have "organically" gotten so many more likes and followers than a "true creator" such as himself.

Apparently a lot of current blue check purchasers don't understand that famous people weren't famous simply because they had the blue check.

The comments on this post are hilarious. A lot of them amount to “Help, I paid $8 and still get no likes on my posts”.

Twitter Blue doesn’t make you interesting. If it did, it might have been worth the $8.

Someone has posted the entirety of the Mario Movie on Twitter. It's been up for at least four hours now.

Edited by jimbob:
mild profanity in image, so spoilered to ensure SFW

I think the team that handles these types of things might be short staffed.

A "legacy" verified appoint with a blue check has now uploaded the entirety of Avatar: The Way Of Water.

In other news: That movie is over three hours long.

That sound you hear is Uinversal's lawyers getting ready to sue.

Will someone institute a queuing system?
