I don't use Twitter because it's very badly implemented and 99% crap: Figuring out who is saying what to whom is hardly ever worth the effort.

It is certainly frustrating, isn't it? People go through all kinds of effort to portray Trump as the same as every other politician, par for the course, etc. Then Trump spews out more batcrap crazy talk, and even people who aren't on the Twitters get told about it. It makes all the effort to normalize Trump just a waste of time, when Trump keeps undermining that effort.

Just in case you missed it, Manafort just got another 43 month sentence.

And amazing enough, he actually did apologize for his crimes.

Furthermore (I just heard), Manafort now faces legal trouble in the state of New York. So Manafort is still not out of the grave that he dug for himself.

CNN says 6 years, 43 months of which to be served after his existing sentence from Virginia. 90 months total, but fed system gives you 15% credit for good time. 77 months less 9 already served = 68 months.

5 years 8 months means he could be out in 2024 but without all of his savings.

I guess now the question is whether Mueller (or other government prosecutors) should go after Manafort on on other potential crimes. (For example, there is the possibility he could be brought up on charges by the State of New York or California for tax fraud.)

Manafort does deserve more prison time than just ~6 years. (I think Judge Ellis totally messed up, while the second judge actually passed a more reasonable sentence, but for charges where he potential jail time was shorter.) But, he's also a senior citizen, so piling on additional charges might be a waste of resources.

ETA: Nevermind... as others have pointed out... breaking news is that he is being indicted by New York. Good for them!

Hurray for New York. Manafort does deserve more jail time, and Trump can't pardon him for these.

CNN - Prosecutors with the Manhattan district attorney's office announced state fraud charges Wednesday against Paul Manafort.

The announcement adds to the legal trouble for Donald Trump's former campaign chairman, who is already facing years in prison on federal charges.

LoL did this person just brag that someone from the Presidents inner circle ONLY got 47 months?

Now it's up to 90 months. Even in the 6ish-7ish year range (You really can't assume good behavior. Manafort has ****** up multiple times with threatening witnesses and ****), he'll be close to 75-76 when he gets out of prison. That doesn't count the sentence he's going to get from the new state charges.

I've never seen people bragging about someone getting a short prison term. Overall I think it's light, but not unexpected. Rich white guys get off easier than any other ethnicity or group of people.
 
I wonder if Manafort's fairly lenient sentence is going to be worse for him. There goes the "totally rigged witch hunt" narrative that has been peddled as an obvious trial balloon for a Trump pardon. It's hard to say that he got railroaded when he got the first-class, white-collar treatment that our justice system is famous for.

Hopefully these NY state charges shore up the shortfall when it comes to years behind bars.

Remember, this is the same Trump that complained about the charges being for things that happened "years ago", and now that Manafort appears to be using a wheelchair, he may still try to use the narrative of them "beating up an old, crippled man because of things done so long ago".

Assuming of course he hasn't managed to hid some of his assets to prevent them from getting seized.

On one hand, given the type of international connections and experiences he has, I could totally see him trying to do that.

On the other hand, it seemed a lot of what he was doing involved stunts involving short term gains, so maybe he didn't plan for contingencies where he might need to keep some cash hidden.

Trump will gladly spin any story that suits his need, no matter how far fetched. But the relatively light sentence for Manafort will make it more difficult for the "he got railroaded" story to gain wider traction. I'm thinking on some of Trump's less reliable enablers that occasionally find a backbone to stand up to him that might not be able to accept Manafort doing 6 years in club fed as being an outrage.

I don't look at the feed because I don't use Twitter and don't care to go to the effort to open a new tab for it. I appreciate his effort. Without bothering to check an additional site, I see recent Tweets.
 
As it's a thread about trump I think it's important that we get Trump's own words.
