Well ...

If it is possible to combine the skills and talents of the 17 new lawyers into just one lawyer, then Trump just may have one decent lawyer on his legal team after all.

17 new lawyers who are presumably fairly relaxed about the prospect of not getting paid, and having their client ignore their advice.

BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED, I AM

...no longer able to reach an agreement with my client that represents his best interests, and as such I am forced to resign my position and pursue other opportunities. Is Mueller hiring?

Trump has realized that he will never get to use his Campaign Funds in 2020, so he better just spend it now.

... and he might as well milk what he can now. I haven't really been following the threads lately -- did anyone mention the fund-raising emails he sent out before and after his Big Speech on Tuesday?

It's being reported that Trump has hired an additional 17 lawyers

I think these are white house lawyers (paid for by the taxpayer) rather than personal lawyers for Trump.

From the original article:
The investment in a bolstered legal team is particularly galling for federal government workers who continue to go unpaid amid the partial government shut down.

President Donald Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen said on Thursday he has agreed to testify publicly before a U.S. House of Representatives committee on Feb. 7.

Cohen said in a statement he had accepted an invitation by the panel’s Democratic chairman, U.S. Representative Elijah Cummings, to appear publicly before the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

The article read to me that Trump hired a guy, and that guy hired 17 more people.

ETA, from the source:

The Independent report that, "The strategy to strongly assert the president's executive privilege on both fronts is being developed under newly arrived White House counsel Pat Cipollone, who has hired 17 lawyers in recent weeks to help in the effort."

So yeah, it does read a little weird. The White House hired a guy that hired 17 people. Does that mean they work for the White House? Seems convoluted to me.

Now THAT is pretty awesome.

"White House counsel" means he's working for the administration and a public employee.

If it meant a private lawyer for Trump, then the author and editor should both be admonished.

As to staffing, It's quite common in government parlance for a single referred-to entity to mean a whole department of people.

I detect a bit of a theme here

Mueller has cleared Cohen publicly testifying before Congress.

Cohen tweeted "Buckle up!"

Oh, man...this is going to be gooooooooood!
