Could have been büttwipe or boettwipe before they changed it at Staten Island.

I knew about Manafort wanting to “get whole” from the campaign chair gig to pay his Ukrainian / Russian debts at least this summer if not a year ago. How did this become new news?

Because Victor Boyarkin confirmed it.

If I hear one more waitperson say 'bruSHetta" instead of 'brusKetta" I'm not going to be responsible for my actions. That's when I order a glass of "SHianti".
I feel I ought to mention I read your username as "Stack-hiss." I know the y is in the wrong place for that pronunciation but it just rolls better.

Maybe thinking of my username as just "Stacy" would help?:D

It took ages for me to realise that was what your handle meant - only when you referred to yourself as female, did I work it out.

<the moment when varwoche is glad he's not a waitperson :o>

If I have helped one person pronounce it correctly, I will give an offering to the gods of tomatoes, basil, Parmesan cheese, garlic, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, kosher salt, and pepper on toasted bread.;)

My next mission besides World Peace: stop people from saying "mis- chee- vee- us". I think achieving World Peace is more likely.

ETA: After World Peace will be "coup de grâce". It's not GRAH as in "fois gras", people. It's "grahs".

No it is not. But for people ignoring the evidence that is in the public domain including more than 30 indictments and numerous convictions in their minds I suppose it seems like all speculation.
Indictments are not evidence, they are accusations. Granted, if somebody is indicted, there is probably evidence against them. But Trump hasn’t been indicted yet.
As for Trump trying to shut the investigation down, on this I will speculate: Some powerful Republicans like McConnell have told him shutting the investigation down would be disastrous. Of course who knows what McConnell thinks about there being or not being evidence. There are a number of possibilities how such a warning might be offered and taken.
Trump listens to other people?

And most likely never will be. All indications are that Mueller doesn't feel he have the authority to indict a sitting president, and it will be up to congress to do something with whatever he finds out. Which is why Trump and his cronies have been so busy running a smear campaign against Mueller and the investigation. And the sad thing is, it appears to be working. Or at least it was, until the last few months of the year and the indictments and sentencings that came with it.

I don't think that was a coincidence. I think Mueller is doing an excellent job of reading the tea leaves, and giving out only as many hints as necessary to keep shenanigans at bay. The story went "Trump fires Rosenstein, appoints unqualified toady, indictment, indictment, indictment, even toady will not touch investigation with ten foot pole."

As I understand the American justice system, if there's an indictment, then sworn evidence was presented to a grand jury. Of course, the defense may challenge that evidence at trial, but a prosecutor can't simply indict someone just because he/she wants to. If there's an indictment, there's evidence.

But Trump hasn’t been indicted yet.

True. I like to think the key word is "yet," but I really don't know.

I assume that there is already a sealed indictment of Trump, waiting for the day he leaves office.
If he's removed from office, Pence will follow the precedent set by Ford and pardon him. If he's defeated by a Dem, however, it could get interesting. Starting when he tries to declare the election illegal and stay in office. And about 20% of the electorate will agree with that.

I agree. Pence would pardon him if Trump is successfully impeached. That's one reason I would prefer he be defeated in 2020 as much as I'd love to see him ignominiously removed from office.
