Mubarak sentenced to life

I suspect that Mubarak is very much alive and that this is a ruse to keep him out of jail.

Just wanted to point out that it's been more than a year since Mubarak was reported to be "clinically dead" but he is still alive. I think this is strong evidence for my theory that he is in fact malingering.

Follow-up: Apparently he's actually been acquitted of corruption charges and could soon be a free man according to lawyers. An interesting contrast as leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood are now being arrested and killed. It seems the old regime is reasserting itself.

Egypt court acquits Hosni Mubarak on corruption charges; Lawyer says he'll soon be free

Longtime Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak -- ousted by an Arab Spring-inspired popular uprising in 2011 -- was acquitted Monday of corruption charges by a Cairo court, and his lawyer told CBS News he expected him to be freed "within 48 hours."

Lawyer Fareed El-Deeb confirmed to CBS News producer Alex Ortiz that Mubarak was acquitted on the corruption charges, which stem from allegations that he and his sons embezzled funds for work on presidential palaces.

In spite of El-Deeb's prediction, however, it remained unclear whether Mubarak would actually be set free. He is still facing charges that he was complicit in the killing of hundreds of protesters by his security forces during the months of turmoil which led to his ouster.

But it would be laughable for the current regime to charge him with being "complicit in the killing of hundreds of protesters by his security forces" while the current regime is killing hundreds of protestors.

He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison on those charges in June 2012, but the verdict was challenged on technicalities and the case has gone to retrial. Judicial officials told the Associated Press, however, that Mubarak cannot be held in custody anymore on those charges because of a two-year limit pending a final verdict.
. . .
Egypt is now bitterly divided between Morsi's backers and foes, and almost 1,000 people have been killed in just a week as pro-Morsi protesters defiantly take to the streets to demand his reinstatement, facing off with state security forces trying to enforce a curfew.

Isn't it ironic?
