MSNBC had a Suds Summit countdown clock, so why not a SOTU clock?

"All the cable news network's have been talking about this upcoming “Beer Summit” taking place at the White House tonight (6pmET! “Red, Light and Blue”!). But only one network took it to the next level – countdown clock."

Since the SOTU will be on every network local and national channel and news cable channel, what exactly is the purpose of this? Does MSNBC think of themselves as Cape Canaveral?

I think it speaks to the systemic and entrenched liberal bias of the media

Really? Seemed more like another jejune offering from the cable network that has a seemingly bottomless repository for inanities.

I'm sure MSNBC is convinced this stunt will net them a few viewers who are interested in Obama's 3210843280382nd speech.

Considering the "few viewers" that make up MSNBC's regular audience, this is a still born stunt.

Another very important subject brought to light by Cicero.

What would the world ever do without him?

It sure seems important to MSNBC. This subject must be too deep for someone who had a thread title called "Sarah Palin Prank Called by The Masked Avengers"

Back when I used to have CNN on cable, I recall that network sometimes having a countdown clock to some President Bush speeches/addresses and such.

Regardless of the network or President involved, it would seem to be somewhat silly.

I don't mean to disrupt this essential discussion, but it sure sounds like folks are giving MSNBC grief for having a countdown clock to the SOTU address that they don't have.

It's as if Cicero is saying, "They sure were stupid to have it for the Beer Summit, and now they're sure stupid even though they don't have one for the SOTU speech."

But perhaps he can explain the tortuous logic that moved him to start this thread. I'm sure everyone is counting the minutes until then.

Do you own a TV with a cable connection? If not, do you also not have access to MSNBC's own website? Aren't moderators supposed to have even a tenuous grasp of any facts before chiming in?

I guess all these people are mistaken as well:

"What's up with the countdown clock on MSNBC for tonight's State of the Union?"

I've seen Countdown Clock used before to advertise the beginning of a broadcast of particular interest.

I think there are a lot of people who should at least try to sit down and listen to what their President is going to say. It would really help with their messed up preconceptions.

No, I don't cruise the news sites all the time, so I was going by what you said, which indicated there was a Clock for the Beer summit, but not for the SOTU. (Your link took us to the beer summit clock too.)

Maybe you should get a tenuous grasp of what you are typing before hitting the "submit" button.

Why not take your own advice?

You seem to be the only one who is confused. What was obvious to all others is just too cryptic for you. Saying since MSNBC had a Suds Summit clock, so why not a SOTU clock? means they don't have one? What does the thread title say? Does it say that MSNBC doesn't have one? Is it really necessary to proved a link to something MSNBC is currently doing today, all day in order for you to not to embarrass yourself? The only person saying MSNBC doesn't have a clock is you.

But starting a thread to discuss it isn't inane?

(BTW wasn't it you that said Obama already postponed this speech until after the healthcare bill passed?)

Are you kidding? The media was asking Press Secretary Gibbs when the SOTU would be and all he could say was that it wouldn't pre-empt the "Lost" episode on February 2, 2010. When it became painfully apparent to POTUS Obama, the head of the Democratic Party, that the health care bill was not going to be passed this month or next, there was no longer any reason for any delay.
