I can kind of see how Christians can ignore evidence that their bible is mythology because the histories of the books are over 2000 years old. But, the Book of Mormon?! I mean, c'mon.. the history of Joe Smith's fraud isn't even 200 years old yet, and it's still a fraud that is well documented. What is it that keeps Mormons ignoring the evidence? It seems that Mormon apologists don't even try to touch the subject of the Kinderhook Plates.

I guess if one is brainwashed, they simply can't see evidence that contradicts their beliefs.

I used to be a Mormon and I would occasionally question thigs like where all of these cities were in North America and why we don't have some animals (or even fossils) mentioned as running around in the Book of Mormon. I can assureryou that the church has all manner of post-hoc rationalizations for those and any other question you can think of. My eprsonal favorite is that God wants us to have faith so he has hidden/destroyed all of the evidence for these things (not official church doctrine, as far as I know, but something an elder told me once). I don't think it is brainwashing as much as I think it is just that these kind of rationalizations are, sadly, good enough for most people. This is doubly true if the person (as I did at one time) sincerely WANTS to believe them.

Just goes to show you how unimportant a detail it is that the bible is 2000 years old. It's old age ain't the reason people suspend common sense. Faith demands it, and the faithful comply. Period.
