Howdy all,

I'd heard about the February 10th pickets, but I had no idea how successful they were - I honestly thought this "Anonymous" stuff was just a passing fad, but it looks like they're quite serious! 7600 people showing up at 108 different $cientology locations worldwide is pretty damned serious in my book.

Anyhow, there's another set of protests (hopefully bigger!) planned for this coming Saturday, March 15th. If anyone is interested, here's more info: http://forums.enturbulation.org/viewforum.php?f=21

And if you want to see pics from the Feb. 10th protests, check this out: http://www.xenu.net/news/20080210-picket_signs.html

My favorites are the Guy Fawkes masks - that's just awesome! :D

I was pretty dismissive of Anonymous when I first heard about it, but I'm coming around.

Love the Guy Fawkes masks. I may have to find a way of participating.

I'll be there. AFAICT the numbers will actually be higher this time around, but who can tell. There's some really interesting intel leaking out at the moment too.

Not sure we need two threads though...

The Chicago one isn't far from where I live, but I'm not real comfortable associating with a group that likes to use the term "scifag". What's up with that?

Beats the hell out of me. Some kind of youthful hacker geekoid lingo thing... whatever.

Pretty much that. The use of the term applies to pretty much everything, themselves included. It can describe people in a city or a particular group, as said above. For example, in a short video put out by London Anonymous, they refered to themselves as "britfags." So while it is meant to be shocking, it isn't meant exclusively as an insulting label. In fact, rarely is it meant as an insult inside Anonymous circles, mostly just as a way of grabbing attention or in use as a meme.

Though I have come across the term "scilon" in increasing regularity, which I find hilarious, in a good way, and somewhat applicable, given the target.

You most likely won't see the term at any protest, Anonymous may use it in forums, but rarely in the "real world." I didn't see it at the Vancouver protests, nor in any of the video compilations of the events.

It's a strange bit of in-group slang, but it isn't intended to be insulting per se. Plenty of them claim to be homosexual themselves.

No doubt it did originate from the rather pathetic name-calling you get between 12-year-olds online (see the post-South Park use of the word "gay"); used to the point of meaninglessness. Now it seems to just mean "person", though an outsider must be forgiven for thinking otherwise - "fag" being a taboo word in real life. If it's deprecating at all, its usage across the board is at least fair!

The internet is a strange place..
