While Renier dismisses Posner for allegedly negative motives, his Tampa Bay Psychics have issued a positive challenge, offering a $1,000 cash prize for a scientifically sound demonstration of her powers and explicitly setting forth the terms of the test. For over a decade, the Fort Lauderdale-based James Randi Educational Foundation has upped the ante by offering a million-dollar bounty to anyone who can demonstrate paranormal powers in a clinical setting. Foundation members even promise to hand off the testing procedures to an impartial third party.

Renier will have none of it, protesting that the debunkers aren't actually interested in the truth and would just sabotage her performance with underhanded trickery.

You must be a physic, man! I was just telling myself this morning to look into John Merrell's site and give him another plug. He's a member here, but I believe was attracted by a mention he had in a thread. He hasn't posted since that introductory thread, though.

He and Posner have a long-running battle with Renier. Merrell is waiting for a decision in the courts on a request for a summary judgment in a suit he's filed. I believe if that goes against him, the trial was to be in Feb '07, IIRC. Details at:

His website is fairly well documented, if a little dry (we had an exchange on the subject, and I'm glad to see he's sparked it up a bit). I like the fact that he took her book title for the site - must infuriate her to no end.

All in all, I'm impressed with him and Posner, both. They seem to operate on very thin resources, but they stick to their guns. They're worth filing under G for Good Guys!
