Milosevic dead

The former Serb leader died today in his prison in the Hague, reports the Norwegian media.

It's confirmed by the Serb news station B92 and the French news agency AFP.

Bring out the champagne!

What do you know? It's not like you were there fighting, or anything.

Er...um...:footinmou

When I feel like saying anything else stupid, I'll be back. :D

(Haven't posted much lately, and you were overdue for a ribbing.)

So was Milosevic's last public appearance when he went to the cookout in the Joe-hio region of Petoria?

I dunno, I'm guessing the prison doctor told him his blood pressure wasn't THAT bad.

And sure, eat all the fats and sweets you want.

I hope prison was very boring. Blaise Pascal thought the worst thing you could do was put a man in a room with nothing to do.

Personally, I'll save my sympathy for the victims.

I bet either Mladic or Karadzic are going to be found within weeks. The Tribunal needs a big fish again.

Looks like you might be right!

Ms del Ponte said Mr Milosevic's death made it even more urgent for Serbia to arrest the most wanted Bosnian Serb war crimes fugitives, Ratko Mladic and Radovan Karadzic.

It's about time those arseholes were captured and brought to justice! It's been over 10 years!

I refuse to believe no-one knows where they are. When I was in Bosnia, we had a pretty good idea where Karadzic was. Never understood why they didn't just send in the troops and drag his ass to Hague.

They killed him with boredom. A right proper trial should take no more than 3 years.
Well, if so, he had only himself to blame.

It's damn irksome that he popped his clogs before a verdict was reached. What's also annoying that, under the Tribunal's rules of procedure, material from a trial which cannot be completed cannot be entered into the record and referred to in subsequent trials (by contrast, if Mladic is captured and tried, material presented in the Krstic and Galic cases, for instance, can be referred to without having to establish allover again that the events in question occurred). That'll mainly affect any further trials of Serbian defendants regarding Kosovo, though; I suspect Bosnia's been pretty thoroughly thrashed out by now.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised by the claims that the Tribunal, or its supposed puppet-masters, had Slobo killed, but I never cease to marvel at the idiocy of conspiracy theories. Presumably, Milosevic had to die because he couldn't be found guilty. So whoever had him assasinated has no qualms about murder, but does have qualms about rigging a trial. That makes sense.

When I was in Bosnia, we had a pretty good idea where Karadzic was. Never understood why they didn't just send in the troops and drag his ass to Hague.
Maybe the fact he was hiding in the French sector had a thing to two to do with that...

I'm rather sure that the right amount of money and guarantees will buy a quiet hit or two somewhere in the forests one night...

I think we have very different interpretations of what "great leader" means.

Yeah... watching the news reports yesterday gave the impression that there were many serbs queueing to kiss his picture. But today they are telling a different story, that seems to be closer to the truth. I am waiting to see what happens at the funeral, now.

I think it is a case of good riddance if ever there was one, but at the same time it might have been good for the families of his victims if he had been convicted properly. Oh well.
