Michelle Bachmann could be our next president.

I'm gettining tired of seeing blog posts, opinion pieces and regular articles headlined: "Bachmann goes into Overdrive." Don't thise idiots realize just how unoriginal that is?

Bachmann graduated from the law school the year its accreditation was reinstated so a lot of the time she was there they were unaccredited. Just some trivia, FYI.

Robertson's Regent School of Law for those that don't know, was the unaccredited at the time law school that George W Bush found 150 or so new grads to replace highly skilled career lawyers at the Dept of Justice ... but I digress.

Actually, to the best I can tell, O.W. Coburn was accredited through the last couple years. The school did not lose it's accreditation, they just lost money. Oral Roberts basically sold the law library to Regent and closed the school the year that Bacmann graduated. Regent was not acredited. Here is a lawsuit that explains some of the details

Well there's not much to see here. She got a lackluster degree from a lackluster college.

In 6 years.

It only becomes really unoriginal if she finds guy called Turner to be her running mate.

Back to the topic at hand though, I have a suspicion (which I'm saying as a non-American so take it with a grain of salt), that while Michelle Bachmann will not the be next President of the USA, she will be the Republican Candidate for that position.

That would be Obama's dream, but alas it's not going to happen. In the end, the Republicans are practical in such matters, and the Tea Party doesn't hold that much power.

There are signs that she peaked too early and too fast.

The only Turner that comes to my mind would really upset her supporters over at Fox though. (oh, and he is married to a commie traitor, so would never even be considered).

His entire "PHD" is approximately as long as my literature review for my PHD, i.e. my Chapter 1!

Fake or flakey PHD certification is one thing that really pisses me off
The thing is shorter than the list of references in mine.

A hidden-camera exposé shows that Bachmann’s husband practices controversial "reparative therapy" aimed at turning gays straight despite his having denied it in the past.

In 2006, a story about Michele Bachmann in the Minneapolis City Pages delved into husband Marcus’s involvement in the ex-gay movement. The piece quoted Curt Prins, an attendee at a conservative conference where Marcus, a therapist who runs a Christian counseling practice, gave a presentation, “The Truth About the Homosexual Agenda,” arguing that homosexuality is both a choice and a threat. As a finale, he brought up three people, including a prominent ex-gay activist named Janet Boynes, who testified about leaving homosexuality behind. “One of them said, 'If I was born gay, then I'll have to be born again,'" Prins recalled. "The crowd went crazy."

Yet when the City Pages reporter asked Marcus if his clinic performs so-called reparative therapy—a widely discredited technique meant to turn gay people straight—Marcus denied it. And over the years he has kept denying it, despite plenty of evidence that both he and Michele are deeply committed to the idea that homosexuality can be cured.

If there was any doubt that he was lying, it disappeared on Friday, when The Nation broke news of an investigation by Truth Wins Out, a group devoted to combating the ex-gay movement. “Undeniably, 100 percent, the Bachmann clinic practices reparative therapy, which tries to cure gay people of their homosexuality,” says Wayne Besen, Truth Wins Out’s founder.

Is this the same clinic that took $30,000 of government aid over the past few years?

From your link, “Minnesota is one of the only states in which you can practice mental health without a license,” Stark said.

That strikes me as an ambiguous statement.

To be a psychologist in MN you need a license in psychology. there are two other licensing boards in MN with different titles. Pretty much anybody can hang a shingle out and do therapy if someone wants to hand them cash I think. I think brainwashing gays would not be regular licensed therapy.

Well, there's a budget-cutting measure that might not even need to go through congress. Just cut off any medicare or medicaid money, or any other public funding from ex-gay clinics. It is not a medical neccessity nor proven to be effecacious.

I love the thought of a certain teatard whackadoodle shrieking about being fed gored ox.

I think they are going to start by cutting all payments to the military, which should put all aging hippies into a state of extreme joy.

Now I hear they are going to stop all payments to seniors. This should put Republicans into a state of extreme joy.

OK, on to Bachmann's education. I can't easily find information on the O W Coburn Law School. If one looks at Wiki, they have an article on Oral Roberts U but no entry for Coburn.

The O W Coburn Law School is now called the Regent University School of Law. Matt Taibbi described her education in his profile of her:

Young Michele found Jesus at age 16, not long before she went away to Winona State University and met a doltish, like-minded believer named Marcus Bachmann. After finishing college, the two committed young Christians moved to Oklahoma, where Michele entered one of the most ridiculous learning institutions in the Western Hemisphere, a sort of highway rest area with legal accreditation called the O.W. Coburn School of Law; Michele was a member of its inaugural class in 1979.

Originally a division of Oral Roberts University, this august academy, dedicated to the teaching of "the law from a biblical worldview," has gone through no fewer than three names — including the Christian Broadcasting Network School of Law. Those familiar with the darker chapters in George W. Bush's presidency might recognize the school's current name, the Regent University School of Law. Yes, this was the tiny educational outhouse that, despite being the 136th-ranked law school in the country, where 60 percent of graduates flunked the bar, produced a flood of entrants into the Bush Justice Department.

Regent was unabashed in its desire that its graduates enter government and become "change agents" who would help bring the law more in line with "eternal principles of justice," i.e., biblical morality. To that end, Bachmann was mentored by a crackpot Christian extremist professor named John Eidsmoe, a frequent contributor to John Birch Society publications who once opined that he could imagine Jesus carrying an M16 and who spent considerable space in one of his books musing about the feasibility of criminalizing blasphemy.

The Mittster just took a nice, backhanded swat at Bachmann, re: the Marriage Vow pledge.

http://iowaindependent.com/58405/mitt-romney-declines-undignified-iowa-social-pledge

Score one for the Mittster.

Well, that's because the pledge would be a bit problematic for Romney. See, he would have to disavow polygamy, yet he is a product of polygamy. His great grandfather had 5 wives. Although Romney himself has condemned polygamy, he probably wouldn't want his family's past or the fact that he's Mormon emphasized were he to sign the pledge.

Gingrich probably won't sign it either. The pledge states that you won't commit adultery. Although the footnotes say that the pledge only applies to future behavior, I doubt Newt wants to stir up his past in that regard.

My 5th grade math/science teacher was a secret member of the John Birch society until she was found out and terrorized until she went permantly mad. (No I have nothing at all to do with Cthulu) Lets see, she didn't believe in plate tetonics, she called the constitution an obsolete document, encouraged physical agression and bullying in her class, made us sing god bless america over and over while screaming sing louder you hippies! You ruined america! God I miss her. She really did more for me than any other teacher.
