Mexico City has voted to allow gay marriage in their city. It also allows gay couples to adopt children. The Catholic church is against this as are many Mexican citizens.

I wonder if this came about as the result of decliningg tourism in this dangerous out of control city? Perhaps they want their city to become a mecca for gay couples?

How often are gays kidnapped for ransom in Mexico City?

Hyper-Catholic Mexico allows gay marriage and California doesn't?

Mexico is a nation that has catholics. California is part of a "Christian Nation" according to our previous president. Other than not talking about it, I haven't seen too many changes from our current president on that front.

I wonder if a gay marriage would be recognized in places that do not have such marriages?

Some places have explicitly recognized gay marriages conducted elsewhere, while not conducting gay marriages themselves, a.o., Israel, the state of New York and Washington DC.

I wonder though how it works when a single city conducts gay marriages - like now Mexico City and before San Francisco. Marriage is obviously not legislated at the city level, but at the state level.

And I doubt you will. Jesus told President Obama that gay marriage is wrong.
