[Merged]Flight 93 - The Cell Phones that worked!

No, I never said it was odd. I'm only pointing out that the official story-- that which is believed by tens of millions of Americans, and has launched us into two wars costing thousands of lives and hundreds of billions of dollars-- is not supported by any of the first hand eyewitness accounts from aboard the planes.

That's an excellent argument. I couldn't have said it better myself. The hijackers could just have easily been Israeli agents performing a false flag as al-Qaeda Arabs.

Congratulations, apathoid, you have discovered the key to the 9/11 mystery.

Yes, when all you have to go by is your imagination anything is possible. And it could have been ssanta claus of the easter bunny too. But the rest of us here have to depend on facts and science, not our imagination. This is where the twoofer movement and religion go hand in hand. They are both faith based (although the twoofer movement is really anti-semitic driven as you often demonstrate). Which brings up an interesting claim on your part about the sun revolving around the earth. Itwas science that showed otherwise and the faith based groups who insisted on the sun revolving around the earth. Not to unlike how the twoof movement (faith based) keeps trying to use the same logic as religion did back then.

Got ANY PHYSICAL EVIDENCE that they were Israeli?

Here A-Train, you should be able to answer this question, if you can determine ethnicity by skin color:

So what race is this guy? Give you 1 guess.

I guess I never understood his point. Did he just want the issue of call times/altitude corrected? That's such a minor issue. It's like saying because one reporter disputes the exact landing time of the last space shuttle mission, we will forever have to hold out the possibility that the shuttle and entire crew were replaced by aliens.

The reason the truthers' theories about the calls don't hold up is because all of the other things that would have to be true (government agency faking the calls, thus government agency behind the entire attack, etc.) are utterly obliterated by evidence to the contrary.

So who cares? Who cares about this one insignificant detail?

I seriously don't get it.

As I have said before, the truthers constantly are looking for that one thread end, that when pulled, will unravel the entire weave. What they do not get, is that all the thread ends they find, simply come out as lint...

"Speed Dial Fix" is the term used in the Moussaoui Trial Flash Presentation for some of the calls made, those made by flight attendants (unknown names and Sandra Bradshaw). They were all "Speed Dial Fix" for United Airlines.

The question is relevant because if there is NO "Speed Dial Fix" on airfones, then these calls had to be made from cell phones.

TAM:)

Are the phones the flight attendents use (at the rear and front of the planes) capable of making air-to-ground calls, and if so might they have speed dial?

Nope, they are solely used to communicate between flight attendant stations and/or the cockpit as well as PA announcements.

Right, therefore, either Bradshaw was using her cell phone, and had UA on her "Speed Dial Fix", or the airfones had such a "Speed Dial Fix" on them, which is the heart of my question.

As far as I can tell, "Speed Dial Fix" refers to speed dial calls to UA from an Airfone. I have never heard this term used for cell phones.

In the trial exhibits for the calls from 93, this "Speed Dial Fix" call comes from row 33 DEF. This too implies it is an Airfone call.

What was the question again? :)

V23 doesn't seem to be around anymore.

Congratulations, apathoid, you have discovered the key to the 9/11 mystery.

Your key being the Jews carried out 9-11. The idea of which feeds your hate.

Last summer, on a flight from Washington National to Minneapolis (which would have been near the Flight 93 flight path), I checked my cell phone to see if I was getting a signal, and I did have a signal three times out of approximately 10 attempts. The third time, I decided to call my home phone (there was nobody home but it has an answering machine). I didn't want any hassle from the flight attendant, so I just quickly punched the speed dial and held the phone out of sight, then closed it after about a minute. When I got home, I had about 10 seconds of airplane noise on the answering machine.

When I mentioned this on the DU board, someone said, well, phones and networks are better now than they were in 2001. But my phone uses the same CDMA technology that I was using before 2001, and since the output power of cell phones has always been limited to 5 watts by law, not by technology, the only real difference between the phone I have now and the ones available then is that this one is about half the size. Undoubtedly, there are more cell towers now than there were then, which would certainly make a difference in the percentage of successes. But with 100% confidence, I can say that anyone who claims it's impossible to make cell phone calls from a passenger jet at over 30,000 doesn't know what he's talking about.

Just as an FYI, your CDMA phone doesn't output anything near 5 watts. In fact, it tries to minimize it's output power to conserve battery life.

Anyways, I agree it is possible. In fact, the UA93 cell phone calls occurred at a much lower height.

Regardless of whether it is 2 calls or 4 calls from cellphones*, the majority of calls were made from airphones. So, is anyone who is claiming this as a "smoking gun" saying that the airphone calls are genuine and the cellphone calls fake?

If so, then that doesn't really change the story of what happened on Flight 93 very much, does it?

Or are they claiming that the cell phone calls were impossible, therefore all the calls had to be fake?

If that's the case, why didn't the conspirators make all the fake calls appear to come from airphones?

*and it is 2, as far as I can deduce.

I liked it better when truthers were making new claims and I had stuff to do.

Rehashing the same tired argument has worn me out.

Argument 1:
The news reports immediately after the attack were incorrect (having made an understandable mistake). They were later corrected.

Argument 2:
The news reports immediately after the attack were correct. The "correction" is part of a vast government coverup. Further proving 9/11 was an inside job.

Hmm. Which one is more plausible? Sir William of Ockham, where art thou?

In CT-land, there are no mistakes, therefore all corrections are coverups. In CT-land there are no coincidences, either.

doesn't seem to be a whole lot on the google about "speed dial fix" either, so I am just going to assume it must be a quick dial on the airfone that puts you in touch with the aircraft's airline, unless someone can show me otherwise...just makes more sense.

Funny, one of the arguments made by CTists, is that you have to have a credit card to operate these phones. Now I do not know about hte GTE Airfones from 2001, but I just went through the intro section in the magnastar (Verizon) Airfone guide, and they say that NORMALLY, all calls made, are automatically charged to the aircraft's billing account. So at least in the case of this airfone, the credit card service is the ALTERNATE form of payment, not the norm.

Anyone can add anything to clarify/confirm/refute?

Also, in this manual, "*" key is the speed dial function.

Also, they say you can press "0" at anytime to get "Airfone Customer Care" at anytime in flight.
