Ed Melania Trump was an illegal immigrant?

This issue might turn out to be much ado about very little, assuming that Ms. Trump did not get paid for these photos or for any other modeling that she might have done in the US in 1995. But it still raises questions about the Trump campaign. It would be perplexingly careless for no one to check Ms. Trump's bio if she wrote and posted it on her own. Or was everyone too afraid to raise the issue for fear of hearing "You're fired!"? Or did the campaign deliberately lie?

There's no way that I believe that she simply doesn't remember whether she came to the US in 1995 or 1996. I not only remember the year of every interstate move that I've made, I remember the month and day when I arrived in my new state.

That is the thing with all of these unforced errors.

It shows what sort of organization this man formed around himself and how that organization would act in office. It reminds me of a startup that never intends to launch a product.

Except that no one is telling us that speeders are ruining our nation. There is no major party candidate for national office campaigning on a platform of permanently depriving speeders of their driver's licenses.

With due respect, so the **** what?

Let me repeat the point, without the metaphor this time.

What I quoted suggests that denaturalization is possible.

What TubbaBlubba said (and sounds plausible to me) is that denaturalization is probably very rarely used and only in the most egregious cases.

There is no contradiction between what Tubba said and what I said. He's describing how he supposes immigration policy is implemented, and it is consistent with what I quoted about what immigration policy allows. Neither of us said anything about how this fits in with Trump's rhetoric.

ddt seemed to imply that what Tubba said contradicted the source I quoted. It did not.

Well, thank you very much for the respect, so eloquently expressed. I suppose I was responding less to your point (which was correct) and more to the developing idea among multiple posters that this issue shouldn't even be under discussion/consideration in relation to the presidential campaign.

Good evening. Looks like Donald is incapable of letting a story go away.
Melania Trump will address immigration controversy, Donald Trump says
"They said my wife, Melania, might have come in illegally. Can you believe that one?" Donald Trump told his supporters Tuesday. "Let me tell you one thing. She has got it so documented, so she's going to have a little news conference over the next couple of weeks. That's good. I love it. I love it."

Wouldn't he be doing them both a favor by just letting this story fade away? Instead he goes with his trademark "They said..."

Of course he would. Pivoting to one's issues is supposed to be a standard skill among politicians. Granted, every once in a while someone will get even the most skilled politician's goat but, yeah, Donald just can't help himself.

Then again, there's something to be said for his willingness not to be pinned down to a specific timeframe for when the issue will be addressed...She'll hold a news conference "over the next couple of weeks?" That's either a very, very long news conference or he's just talking out his ass like usual.

Why would you assume that lie was true?

When it was brought to light, it was immediately scrubbed from the Net.

Eh, some of us can't remember how old we are, that part I can see. But claiming you didn't get paid for nude photos while you had a tourist visa, that's not credible.

No matter what you do, you should not lie on your citizenship or naturalization application. If you lie, misrepresent facts or conceal information on your citizenship application, you could face serious penalties, including criminal charges, loss of citizenship (called denaturalization) and deportation. If you have any questions or concerns about whether your past will create problems for your citizenship application, you should consult with an immigration lawyer before you submit your application.

Of course when they say, you could face...., it means Melania would not likely lose her citizenship for claiming she had a degree she didn't have or working on a tourist visa, not with a decade long marriage and a 10 yr old child.

It still makes her ugly for shoving her "I'm a legal immigrant" in the face of other less fortunate immigrants.

Please pardon my brusque tone and thanks for the explanation.

I love Teh Trumpster Fire sagely and knowingly verbally winking at his little bitch Hannity that they're going to have a Melania press conference but will let it simmer for a while. Wink wink, 'cuz we know we've got 'em right where we want 'em.

Sure, kids. If they had irrefutable documentary proof, it'd be out there, already. What's the bet?

> The Melanija presser never happens?
> She has a press conference, cries dramatically, and shows a bunch of stamps in her passport that prove nothing?
> Donald divorces her and marries Miss Crimea?
> She explains, "Ha ha. Was joke. In old country we much joking."?
> She plagiarizes the entire Checkers Speech?

But how else could she cement her status as a true Trump?

Does this mean Melania can't vote for Trump, or does she have voting rights now?

Why is it going to take a couple of weeks to sort this out? If you have the documentation, this could be cleared up immediately.

And for once, we've met the "pics or it didn't happen" standard. There are pics. It did happen. (Nice pics too.)

Well apparently Trump has advised Melania to let things simmer for a while:

On the stump Tuesday in North Carolina, Donald Trump added that he advised his wife to "let it simmer for a little while" before holding a news conference to correct the record.

"Let them go wild. Let it simmer, and then let's have a little news conference and have some fun," Trump said.

Because, as Donald Trump no doubt knows because of all his previous press dealings, the media absolutely will not fill that two week period with speculation and conjecture....

I think that technically Yugoslavia (like the USSR) was a federation, so that there was a Republic of Slovenia even before the dissolution of Yugoslavia.

Almost.
It was called the Socialist Republic of Slovenia WP.

Would that work for prospective voters for Trump?
