Medium to the Stars?

Even when the physic is wrong, they are not wrong. They just say, "think about it, it will make sense later." Or "ask around, someone will know."

I usually don't get into these threads but I do have some experience with so-called "psychics". I am not a believer in this crap in any way, shape or form and the experiences I had with the pros before the advent of the internet confirmed it.
First, I won a reading in the late 80s from a radio show with a semi-famous Canadian psychic whose name is another term for automobiles. I went to the appointed place and was placed in a room with my ex-wife (who believed) for about 30 minutes. I insisted she not speak to me about anything in there at all. Total silence as I was about to show her how the scam works. After about 30 minutes we were escorted into another room and the ex left so I was alone with him. The whole thing was recorded and he went on and on about a variety of topics without asking any questions. Then he conjured up some deceased relative of mine and started repeating what they said. The thing is I lied the entire time. Blatant bald faced lies and he was thrilled to confirm that my spirits in the room were happy to have me hear their thoughts. I was having a very hard time keeping my lies straight too. The ex lost faith in him, but still believed in mediums. Oh well, I tried.
Second at a taping of a TV show in Toronto at the CBC building by a guy with the initials RB, I got selected by the lady medium (whose name I can't remember as she was a nobody trying to get famous) and I have no idea how I was picked. I was there on my lunch break when I worked there in 1999. Anyways, she was the asking questions type. I tried my best to keep my expression neutral and I refused to answer questions. My responses were written down on my pocket notebook I carried around and to make sure nobody could read it easily, I simply substituted the number of the letter on the alphabet as I was writing. Needless to say, she got flustered and eventually cut off the session saying my spirits were not in a mood to communicate or something. That segment never aired either. His show was both taped and live. I enjoyed watching the Sharon Lois and Bram show being taped a LOT more.
She was 90% wrong in her declarations too.
Even today if someone googles my real name, they will find almost zero info because I've been very careful to keep my real name out of social media as much as possible. My handles are usually a nickname I got in my younger years. I dare any psychic to try and read me. At my age, yes my parents are gone but my wife is my age and she still has her mother at age 95. That reading could be interesting.

Just my $0.02 here.

Just my $0.02 here.

Your $0.02 are just a valuable as anyone else's $0.02.

Personally, I just lie on such occasions. I know for a fact they are gathering data for a subsequent reading of some sort, so I simply make up whatever outrageous fabricated nonsense I like and then deny the lot after.

It's like when wingnuts rock up to your door and ask you if you have found jesus. My first response is to ask wasn't it careless of you to lose him?

I almost felt bad for pulling his chain like that until I realized he's pulled the same crap with an untold number of other people. The worst a-holes I ever had to endure were the faith healers and spiritual healers when I was battling cancer. Psychics generally don't kill people but these sub-humans were actively trying to do just that.
My ex is still a firm believer in mediums and wastes her money looking for one to connect with her deceased brother. I really feel pity for her that she just can't move on. But only for that though. :D Nothing else.
When the people in the street corners ask me if I've found Jesus, I simply tell them who? or sometimes is he lost?
I got ejected from the parking lot of the creationist museum in Kentucky for laughing at the kooks doing sermons, but that's another thread.

He considers it "self-evident" beyond doubt that Henry is sincere and well-intentioned. Yeah, every successful charlatan tries to look like that. It's the sine qua non of charlatanism.

"Sincerity is the key to the whole thing. Once you can fake that, you've got it made"

Personal anecdote:

I once did a reading for a work colleague, using a unique method that I developed myself. It was so accurate, she told me that I had said things about her that nobody else even knew.

What was my method? I went to three different astrology websites, entered a random date and location, and copied three random paragraphs and put them all together, then sent that to her by email.

Of course I came clean about it, and we had a good laugh. But for a while there she genuinely believed that I had some deep insight into her character and her life - and knew things that I couldn't possibly have known.

That's how easy it is to fool people.

They have, or they haven't, taken public positions? What is in writing, and where can I find that writing?

I checked and you're correct about there being no on-screen disclaimer at the beginning of the show. I didn't check for one at the end, because my On Demand provider won't allow fast-forwarding, and I'm unwilling to leave that smarmy kid on my screen for an hour even with the sound off.

Fwiw, his website disclaimer has all the usual lines worth noting.

"The advice, information, services and other content provided on and through this Site, including information that may be provided on the Site and other content provided on any Linked Site, as defined in this Agreement, are provided for informational and entertainment purposes only"

One would imagine that the TV show has similar, but I haven't confirmed that.

Here's a another free reading:

A few posters on this thread are concerned about their income due to COVID-19.

A few posters here had a COVID-19 related scare within the past year.

A few posters here are under stress due to lost business and or rising costs due to COVID-19 shutdowns and shutdown-related shortages.

Spooky, I know.:D

That's amazing. I'm now a believer and what are your rates?

It sounds like the basis for the method is to let people who want to be fooled fool themselves- they're already leaning into it, you just don't stand in their way.

No charge. I'm a secret millionaire, I go to Las Vegas twice a year and clean up...I wish...

I find this much more believable than "no man, other tv shows are fakes but this one is real!" Someday someone is going to have to explain to me why people with no evidence come to a skeptics board and get pissy when we don't buy the ********.

Your are distorting my point, which was in response to a NDA keeping anyone of a hundred people from coming forward. I would image some TV shows are fake, some are real.

What no evidence? You've got a TV show that has a national audience and not one client or crew member--at any given time there are estimated 80 people working backstage. You may not agree, but that is certainly evidence.

I didn't expect you would buy what I'm saying--if we agree there is little value in the discussion, right?--but the close mindedness has caught me off guard.

How do you know that Henry is committing fraud or that he is not talking to the dead?
