McClellan seems like a reasonable man and I have nothing against him, but Democrats really need to stop trumpeting every defection as though it's confirmation of eminent superiority. It's politics and it goes both ways every election; perhaps more so in this one than in recent memory, but it's nothing new. Just remember the bigger the tent gets the more likely it is you'll be disappointed in the end.

I agree. It's like the odd biologist who supports intelligent design or the atheist who finds god. It may be interesting, but one person's opinion says nothing about the soundness (or lack thereof) of the subject itself.

Perhaps what is more important is not that someone has jumped the fence, but rather the reasons why they jumped the fence.

The ability to inspire loyalty is, sadly, a major consideration in some people's choice. McCain seems to have a problem keeping the party regulars inside the tent.

McClellan was a shill, and a disgustingly stupid one, for the policies of George Bush. If I were Obama I'd throw his endorsement out faster than a Cubs fan throws back a home run by the visitors at Wrigley Field. The man has no detectable morality.

Depends. Colin Powell does have some fairly impressive militry creditials so his opinion is of some significance. McClellan is just a PR guy. Who cares what they think?

The latest is Charles Fried, the Solicitor General for President Ronald Reagan and a member of McCain's Honest and Open Election Committee and his Justice Advisory Committee. Turns out he's already voted for Obama, and cites Sarah Palin as the major reason for his decision.

Hmmph. I had first heard of Charles Fried for his newish book defending principles of classical liberalism, but I liked him in his appearance on bloggingheads from Feb. http://bloggingheads.tv/diavlogs/9048

He initially supported Rudy "Freedom is authority" Giuliani and then went over to McCain, but here he says "Obama is a lovely person." His support for Obama is not surprising.

That's one hypothesis. Mine is that like Powell, McClellan feels no loyalty to an administration that used him.

McClellan made no secret of the fact he felt Libby lying to him damaged McClellan's reputation when he went out and said Libby was not involved in the Valerie Plame outing.
