Ehm, there actually were McCain's holding slaves. So "McCain, the
slaveholder" is a completely valid thread title - unless you for some
reason think I meant: "John McCain himself is a slaveholder". Nobody
said that.

Well, the reason why the whole election isn't about issues is due
to 2 years of campaigning. So it's no wonder that topics like this
come up to fill all the time. Wise campaigns just don't make a big
fuss about those things regarding their opponents. ;)

The "Obama's ancestors are slave-holders"-issue came up about
1,5 years ago.

Because I thought that someone who denies this part of family
history shouldn't go around and accuse others of hiding secrets

I think I can see the reasoning behind apologising for the Holocaust, but why 2 world wars?
 
I'm sure if he did address the issue he would be accused of opportunism and playing the race card.
 
BTW, I'll bet that every person alive has ancestors who were slaveholders as well as ancestors who were slaves.

Civilization without slavery is a very recent development.

This is stupid even by Oliver standards.
What gets to me about Oliver is why he continues to do stupid crap like this. Nobody,,and I mean nobody...on this site has any respect for him.The tactics he is using are doing nothing but making a lot of people use the ignore button and the rest laugh their heads off at this posts. One would think he would realise that whatever he is doing ain't working. But he never learns.

And I have to echo that for a German to blame an American because his ancestors were slave owners, is about a gross violation of the "People Who Lives in Glass Houses" rule that is possible, given Germany's record in the last century.....

Well, one and a half world wars. World War 2 in Europe was pretty clearly Germany's fault, World War 1 is a lot more iffy, although Germany certainly has a portion of the blame.

My great-great grandfather was a horse thief, but not a very good one, so eventually he gave it up in favor of being a Baptist minister.

And let's never, ever, never, never, never let Oliver forget that he is German and as such bears all the blame forever and ever for what his homeland did seventy years ago. You'll notice he's denying it.

I have none other than Jesse James lurking in my family tree, a train robber, thief and murderer. Does that mean I am a scumbag too?
