McCain: No on Sotomayor

One more reason not to show the GOP any further respect and deferrence. The Dems didn't get this nasty even with a waste of skin like Miers.

My opinion must be authoritative for some reason? Is yours?

No, but I don't tend to expect people to accept my opinion.

Who said Hispanics necessarily and uniformly do anything?

You implied it.

The impression I get from folks I've spoken to is that McCain is voting no due to the fact that she's

1) Obama's pick

Welcome to politics. Why should Hispanics in particular care about that?

2) and she's a "wise Latina". That criticism rings through all coverage of her, and is the main talking point of GOP objection.

You apparently profoundly misunderstand the issue behind that phrase. It's got nothing to do with her being Latina, or wise (in fact, the criticism is that she's NOT wise).

You have the unique gift to undermine your own post.

How so? Are you implying that it is okay to slime a competent lawyer like Sotomayor, but undignified to point out the the GOP considered a nobody like Miers fit for higher office?

What has Miers ever accomplished but won the respect of the worst president we have ever had?

McCain doesn't have to pander to anyone. He is an incumbent in the highest political office he will ever hold.

Maybe he isn't pandering?

Politicians pander to either their constituents or their party. Without them they are nothing.

Why can't the Republicans be bipartisan like Barack Obama, who voted to confirm John Roberts and Samuel Alito instead of pandering to the base of his party?

Good. So you never state your opinion on a forum. Why are you posting again? 'Cause I forget.

You implied it.

No, I didn't. Your words reveal what you inferred.

Welcome to politics.

I've posted in this forum before, but thank you for the magnificent welcome, O Master.

Why should Hispanics in particular care about that?

Stop being obtuse. I never said Hispanics care about the fact that Obama picked her. I said what I hear from annoyed Latinos is that McCain's vote is based on party loyalty and the "wise Latina" comment that's getting hammered so hard. Conversely, none of the small random sampling I've spoken with thinks his vote is based on integrity of thought.

Myself, many Latinos, and I will dare to say many others besides, have that profound misunderstanding. I'm so glad you're around to school me. As I understand it, she is well respected among her colleagues... who are authoritative... so she is deemed wise among people who, I don't know, might be chosen for the SC. But you're so wise and authoritative, perhaps you should have been picked?

Pretend you were all enlightened by my wonderful post.
